The first ever 50-over match between Australia and England took place at the storied Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia on January 5, 1971, marking the beginning of the One Day International (ODI) cricket format. In the nearly fifty years that have passed since then, the format has produced a number of cricketing treasures that have broken and set several records. In ODI cricket, the record for the highest score by a batsman is one of the most prized records. The record for the greatest score obtained by a batsman in ODI cricket is one of the most prized records in the sport. Throughout history, the highest score in ODI cricket by a batsman has kept changing. Interestingly, the list has been dominated by Indian batters ever since "Master Blaster" Sachin Tendulkar scored the first-ever double hundred in ODIs in 2010. Since then, men's ODI cricket has seen ten double-hundreds.

Players With The Highest Score In ODI Cricket

Over the years, we have seen many amazing innings in One Day International cricket, some of which have made it into the record books. While others are noteworthy for the strike rate at which ...
... they were achieved, these knocks are significant for being among the highest individual totals in the 50-over format. It should be noted that, in contrast to the late 1990s, hitters have recently been able to increase their ODI scoring rate thanks to the popularity of T20 cricket. Sachin Tendulkar became the first batsman to score a double century in the 50-over format in 2010, and several others followed suit. Here are the top individual One Day International scores.

Rohit Sharma - 264 vs Sri Lanka

In 2014, Rohit Sharma beat Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens with an astounding 264 off just 173 balls, which is still the highest score in ODI cricket ever achieved by a batsman. Against Australia in Bangalore in 2013, Rohit scored the first of his three double hundreds with a 158-ball score of 209. Of those hundreds, the second knock came from Eden Gardens. Later, the right-hander completed a hat-trick of double hundreds in ODIs in 2017 when he smashed an unbeaten 208 off 153 balls against Sri Lanka in Mohali. He still has the highest individual score in ODIs with 264, which includes 33 fours and nine maximums.

Martin Guptill - 237* vs West Indies

Former New Zealand opener Martin Guptill had a fantastic World Cup 2015. He established himself as the tournament's leading scorer with 547 runs in nine innings. Guptill delivered a fantastic innings in the Wellington quarterfinal match against the West Indies. He became the only batsman from New Zealand to reach a double century in ODIs. Guptill went on to set the second-highest individual score with 237 runs in 163 balls. The match was won by Guptill's incredible knock, which still stands as the highest individual cricket score in a World Cup match with 11 sixes and 24 boundaries. His superb ball timing made this innings memorable, especially given that it took place in the midst of a difficult circumstance.

Virender Sehwag - 219 vs West Indies

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag became the second batsman to record a double century in One Day International cricket, after Sachin Tendulkar. Sehwag thrashed the West Indies in Indore on December 8, 2011, scoring 219 runs in 149 balls with 25 fours and seven sixes. This fourth match at Indore was part of a five-match ODI series. Before eliminating the visitors for 265 runs, India set a target of 418 runs with Sehwag hitting 219, Gautam Gambhir scoring 67, and Suresh Raina scoring 55. visit here for more Cricket News: https://cricketbazaar.com/cricket-news
