Everything You Should Know About A Badrinath Temple

It is situated at a height of 3300 meters above the sea level in the lap of Garhwal Himalayas in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. According to the holy scriptures, it is believed that this is the same place where Lord Vishnu has meditated for ages and Maa Laxmi safeguarded him from adverse climatic conditions by taking the form of Badri tree and therefore this place got its name as Badrinath.
Badrinath Dham is one of the holiest sites in India and is an integral part of Char Dham yatra of India. The precise origin of this temple is still unknown, it is said that Adi Shankaracharya had re-established it as a centre of devotion and learning.
Badrinath temple is embellished with lovely colourful colour and lovely architecture with contrasting snow capped mountain peaks.

History behind Bardinath Temple
The history of the Bardinath Temple is not properly documented but folklore and scriptures of this area says about Badrinath that it’s been worshipped since the Vedic period. Later in Asoka’s reign, this temple was transformed into a Buddhist shrine however later in the 8th century Adi Shankaracharya revived this shrine as a Hindu temple. It is believed that Adi Shankaracharya stayed in this temple for almost six yeas and then shifted to Kedarnath.
Badrikaashram
As it is one of the most popular temples, there are several misconceptions about the temple. According to one notion, Lord Vishnu has executed a detailed atonement here. He was deeply engrossed on his meditation and had no idea about the dangerous Bardinath weather. His wife, Goddess Laxmi, took the form of a Badri tree and stretched over him to protect him from the scorching sun. When Lord Vishnu witnessed this, he was moved by her devotion and decided to honour her by naming the place Badrikashram.
When should you visit Bardinath
The period of April to June and September to November are perfect times to visit here. There is a hazard of landslides, flooding and other monsoon related problems while travelling during the rainy season. Winter in this destination is unfavourable for religious tours due to the freezing Bardinath temperature. Rainy season that happen in the month of July and August can’t be considered perfect due to the continuous hazard of flood, cloud burst, landslide etc.

Rishikesh Railway station is the nearest railway connectivity to the Badrinath temple. Though it is a small station, but you might get trains from your hometown directly for this station.
