The Sony Ericsson Naite: An Eco-friendly Phone
In a world today where the threat to the environment is bringing about catastrophes left and right that we cannot just ignore, many companies are looking for ways to make their operations (and for some, as well as their products) as environment friendly as possible. Especially when it comes to electronics, there is a big problem with the tons of e-waste we accumulate every day.
An Environment Friendly Phone
Do not fear though, because the Sony Ericsson Naite is now here. One of the main attractions of this simple looking handset from Ericsson is that it is made out of recycled plastic - even the packaging was made more environment friendly be decreasing the amount of cardboard used to make each box. The whole phone is part of SE's ‘Greenheart' initiative, which has the goal of creating and promoting more energy efficient devices. The Naite is one of the entry levels to the Greenheart line.
On the Outside
In terms of looks, the Naite is painfully average and boring-looking - it is, for all ...
... intents and purposes, a typical candybar Sony Ericsson mobile phone. The dimensions are 108 x 47mm on the long side and the short side, respectively. The thickness of the phone stands at about 12.6 mm. The phone is also very light, weighing only a mere 84 grams/It has a dimension of 108 x 47 x 12.6mm and weighs only a mere 84 grams thus making it a lightweight mobile phone. The screen is pretty standard at 2.2 inches with a 320 x 240 pixel resolution.
There is some issue with the charger and earphone port, which has been merged into one/The charger and earphone port has been merged into one port. The absence of a standard 3.5mm jack to accommodate all kinds of earphones is a glaring one.
On the whole, the phone's design is small and compact, and since it's a bit light, it is best handled with extra care. Due it small size, it is may prove to be a bit difficult for some people due to the cramped spacing as well as the small size of the phone's keys.
Inside specifications
The inside of the Naite is also a bit mediocre, with standard fare such as a 2 megapixel camera without a flash, and the memory is only 100mb. However, there is an option to expand the memory using microSD, up to 8GB. The package itself comes with a 2GB card by default/And the package itself comes with a 2GB card by default which can be expanded up to a 8GB micro SD card .
Unfortunately, there is no Wi-Fi for this phone, but it is 3G enabled and also has Bluetooth connectivity/Wi-Fi is not present in this phone, while connection can be done with 3G and Bluetooth connectivity. In terms of battery, the Naita performs fairly well with a 600 hour standby time lifespan and a talk time of 13 hours and 45 minutes/The Naita can support a standby time of 600 hours and a talk time of 13 hours and 45 minutes.
The features inside are pretty basic and sadly, probably due to the Naite being in a low end unit that isn't really designed to blow you away. Still, it manages to have an FM radio and recorders for both audio and video. The phone also has a basic editing tool for video and photographs.
Conclusion
If you are really serious about contributing to the environment as well someone who does not demand too much from their phone, the Sony Ericsson Naite is the phone for you. It's a no-nonsense gadget that delivers mostly what you need, instead of what you want. But feature wise, as many gadgets go, it is sorely lacking in many areas. All that's really going for it is the fact that it is environment friendly, and very portable.
