Shopping for the perfect summer wardrobe can be lots of fun. Summer clothes are almost always brighter, funkier and flirtier than their wintertime counterparts, helping to put you in the right frame of mind for the holiday season.

If you haven''t yet completed your summer wardrobe this year, here''s a look at a few particular items you might want to look out for on your next high street shop:

Not everyone likes the bikini look and this season you will find plenty of stylish one piece styles to choose from. There are cut out shapes, flattering halter neck designs, low-rise cuts, tummy clinchers and boob boosters all depending on your size and your shape. Take your pick.

Skirts this season match the main dress trend: the longer the better. Of course, the summer boho look is back as usual, but this season we also see several sophisticated and sleek styles of longer skirts hitting both the catwalks and the high street. Take your pick or buy one of each and simply match your skirt to your mood or the occasion.

Summer shoes have truly taken a step up in 2010. The gladiator sandals of last year are now in ...
... burnished bronze and gold and often boast vertiginous heels. Tribal and animal prints are also big news in summer footwear this year, transforming the traditional ballerina flats and thong sandals into something altogether more exotic.

As previously mentioned, the maxi dress is huge this season. It is also wonderfully versatile. Wear with flip flops to your next door neighbours afternoon barbecue or with your fanciest pair of heels and some striking jewellery to your favourite uptown restaurant or your next evening do. Available in all manner of shapes and sizes, there are styles to suit all tastes and figures so now is the time to start searching for the perfect dress for you.

Thankfully, last year''s thigh skimming short shorts have been replaced, this year, by longer, more elegant varieties. Check out the high street designs in linen and soft cotton. Go for high waisted 1950s chic and team with a tucked in shirt and peep toe heels.

The high street is the place to shop for all your summer essentials this year. Whilst the catwalk collections were undoubtedly creative and exciting to behold, the top high street stores have outdone themselves in translating this season''s hottest trends into items we can wear and enjoy without breaking the bank.
