The tech world has been buzzing with excitement, as Elon Musk continues to dominate headlines with his latest feats in space and robotics. SpaceX recently completed its fifth Starship test flight, setting new benchmarks for space travel. Meanwhile, at Tesla’s “We, Robot” event, Musk revealed an array of futuristic products, including the Cybercab, Robovan, and an upgraded version of the Tesla Bot, known as Optimus Gen 2. The initial enthusiasm was sky-high—these robots seemed to bring science fiction to life! But the excitement took a slight dip when it emerged that human operators were partly guiding these robots remotely. Still, the advancements show Tesla's commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in humanoid robotics.

Not to be outdone, Chinese company Robot Era has been making waves of its own with a new humanoid robot called STAR1. STAR1 just smashed the previous speed record for bipedal robots, hitting a top speed of 8 mph (3.6 meters per second). This accomplishment edged out Unitree’s H1 robot, which had set a benchmark of 7.4 mph (3.3 m/s) earlier this year. But there’s a twist: ...
... STAR1 achieved this speed while wearing specially designed shoes, which has stirred up some debate in the tech community about whether this provided an unfair edge. Either way, it’s hard not to marvel at the technological leap.

STAR1 stands tall at 5 feet 7 inches and weighs 143 pounds, powered by sophisticated AI and high-torque motors. A recent video released by Robot Era on their official YouTube channel showcased a thrilling head-to-head run between two STAR1 units—one with the footwear and one without—across varied terrains in the Gobi Desert. Watching this robot maintain its speed over grass, gravel, and paved roads for 34 minutes was a sight to behold, giving a glimpse into a future where robots might just keep pace with humans.

While Robot Era has been setting records on the ground, Chinese carmaker Chery is aiming for the skies. At their Global Innovation Conference in Anhui, China, Chery unveiled their prototype for an autonomous flying car. Called the “Land and Air Vehicle,” this machine combines the best of autonomous driving with aerial capabilities. Capable of vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL), the vehicle recently completed a 50-mile (880-kilometer) test flight. And get this: it’s designed to be fully autonomous—no steering wheel, no pedals—just a vision of a future where cars drive and fly themselves.
