Thus far, the year of 2010 has seen a diverse range of trends appear and disappear within the sphere of women''s clothing. From the winter wear of January through to the more spring like collections of April followed by the hottest of this year''s summer designs and finally the much awaited release of this year''s new winter collections at the London Fashion Week.

So for the best of what fashion has seen come and go in the last seven or eight months, here''s a quick list of a few of the year''s most interesting trends and styles:

Last Winter saw jumper dresses take on an androgynous angle, with many loosely fitted and relatively shapeless. Heavy fabrics were teamed with opaque black tights or leggings, a bomber jacket and the all important biker boots for a look that simply oozed with alternative, rock star attitude.

In spring, layering and drapery came into play. Soft and elegant fabrics layered and draped in ultra feminine shapes dominated springtime catwalk collections. The trend was instantly adopted by many women, of all ages, shapes and sizes, thanks to its easy wearability and effortless grace.

Summertime ...
... brought with it two major, defining trends. The first, the maxi dress, saw everyone hunting in the shops for the perfect floor length dress for them. There were bold prints, funky boho styles, modern minimalist versions and elegant evening dresses. No question, the maxi dress is one item no wardrobe dared to be without this summer.

The second major summer trend was the gladiator sandal boot. With straps coming high up the ankles this is one of the most dramatic trends footwear has witnessed for a long time. Great with skirts, shorts and dresses alike, the gladiator sandal is comfortable, practical and bang on style this summer.

London Fashion Week and the release of the 2010/11 Winter collections saw the introduction of one key fabric: sheepskin. Models appeared decked out in scarves, jackets, boots, hats all fashioned out of this cosy and comforting material. The look was often accompanied by new versions of last year''s biker boots and jackets to give it a harder edge.

Last but not least we have the biker jacket. Another practical trend, this edgy look is back in force, teamed with chunky jewellery and heavy eyeliner for a touch of true rock star style. Barton Loi is a freelance fashion writer and retail therapist. They recommend New Look for womens clothing.
