The men''s fashion industry is now just as big as that for women. Men read magazines, use the Internet and watch TV to make fashion-forward wardrobe choices. Many women, now even assert that some men take just as long to get ready as women do in the morning. Men''s fashion has come a long way in the past decade; men wear clothes to be fashionable, not just to be comfortable and functional.

However, men tend to be a lot luckier than women in that they don''t have to suffer for fashion. They can wear trainers, jeans and a t-shirt and look effortlessly cool in a way that women would love to.

But what is on offer in the coming season? More of the mod, geek chic look? Or are we going to be embracing a new modern man?

Getting a decent jacket that will weather the elements and look stylish is really important seeing as the nights will be drawing in, the weather getting colder and rain will be making a major return no doubt.

This season, you have two main jacket choices. Number one is the checked bomber jacket. Seeing as the 1950s are going to be making a fashion return in late 2010 and 2011, this is a great ...
... way to get this trend started. Team it with a denim shirt, dark skinny leg jeans and black trainers.

Dapper is back in town. The only way to look like a chic modern man is with a military jacket. Sleek, cool and a real woman pleaser, the military jacket looks great with straight jeans with a slight turn-up, a sharper-than-sharp shirt, autumnal hued cardigans in burnt red or mustard yellow and some brown or black ankle boots.

Another key look is preppy Americana. High school football styled hoodies and cardigans look great with loose fitting jeans and some colourful, high-top trainers. Turn-up jeans would also work well and team it with a polo shirt to finish off the high school look.

Geek chic is not going anywhere. Embrace your inner nerd with chinos and a granddad style v-neck or cardigan. Boots and a modern mac will complete this look perfectly.

Fashion for men has never been more creative, stylish and affordable. This means men can love to shop just as much as women do, just not on Saturday''s when the football is on. Barton Loi is a fashion writer and freelance journalist. They recommend New Look for mens clothing.
