Qatar Sees 36% Rise In Building Permits: What It Means For The Construction Industry
As per current statistics, construction industry in Qatar is on the rise, especially, building permits for the construction industry for the July has been 36% higher than that of the previous month. This increase as observed by the NPC shows that the country has a major concentration in developing the urban sector through considerable participation from both the government and the private sectors.

The Role of Building Permits in Economic Development
Two kinds of permits that form an integral part of measuring the success of construction sector of Qatar include the building permits and the completion certificates. The current analysis also indicates that the new construction permit made up 36% of the total permits in July this year suggesting the industry is gaining more steam. The equally gradual increase of the construction work reflects the country’s long-term development plan contained in the National Vision 2030 – which targets the diversification and sustainable development of the Qatari economy.
Types of Building Permits
The surge in building permits was spread across both residential and non-residential projects. Residential permits dominated, with villas making up 86% of all new residential permits issued. Apartment buildings followed, accounting for 13%, while other residential structures made up the remaining 1%.
In the non-residential category, industrial buildings led the way, comprising 39% of permits. Service infrastructure buildings followed at 28%, and mosques made up 16%.
Regional Distribution of Building Permits
Among Qatar’s municipalities, Al-Rayyan led the charge, issuing 26% of all building permits in July. Doha and Al-Da’ayen followed closely, accounting for 21% and 20% of the total permits, respectively. This regional distribution highlights varying levels of development across Qatar, with some municipalities experiencing more rapid growth than others.
Building Completion Certificates: A Mixed Picture
While building permits saw a significant rise, the issuance of building completion certificates presented a more nuanced picture. New building completion certifications that reflect both the residential and non-residential construction industry were 84% of all the certifications provided in July.
Villas were again the most dominant in the completions in the residential sector contributing to 94 percent of buildings that were complete in the same year. But it is revealed that there was a 4% overall decrease in the completion certificates as compared to the completion certificates of the previous month. This reduction was observed most strikingly with regard to certificates that reduced by 52% in Doha and 5 percent in Umm Salal.
On the other side, a significant increase was recorded in Al-Wakrah which included 102 percent, In Al-Khor 55 percent and in Al-Shamal 29 percent.
