Sensitive Skin Condition

Redness, itching, swelling, stinging, and possible dryness. Blistering, cracking and scaling in more severe cases.

Sensitive Skin Cause

Sun, wind, rough handling and even water can cause a genuine sensitive or, irritating reaction. The redness, itching and swelling and stinging are common and rapid responses, but the same trigger may not provoke the same reaction each time. Sensitive reactions can lead to full blown allergies. Perfumes, preservatives, colorings, detergents, surfactants and sunscreens such as PABA are all common cosmetic allergens.

The over-use of AHA s, or, chemically derived glycolic acids and combined potent forms of vitamins can trigger a sensitive reaction also, sometimes leaving the skin permanently scarred. A person with allergies who has not yet identified the ingredient(s) or, chemicals that cause their sensitivities MUST use common sense and be very careful when using new products. Always carry out a skin patch test first over 3 - 5 days. NEVER apply fully to the face without first knowing if your skin will accept the new product. Seek professional ...
... assistance if you suffer from this condition, you will be saving yourself from continued discomfort and of course saving yourself a substantial amount of money by finding out what it is that you are allergic to.

More Information for Sensitive Skin

The best way to handle sensitive skin is by acting like it is very dry. Therefore, refrain from scrubbing and avoid aggressive treatment products, especially anything that contains AHA s. Avoid the sun like the plague - and although sensitive skin undoubtedly needs protection from UV rays, certain types of sunscreen are common rash-catalysts because of the interaction between chemicals and the sun s rays.

Sunscreen ingredients to avoid are PABA, benzophenone and methoxycinnamate. Instead look for sunscreens containing mineral sun-filters to provide the best broad-spectrum UV protection and to reduce the risk of skin allergies. Years of chronic irritation weakens the skin and can cause significant aging. An allergic reaction occurs each time the skin comes in contact with the trigger. Sensitive skincare ranges exclude ingredients most likely to irritate, whilst including agents to calm and strengthen the skin against environmental attack. IMPORTANT: When choosing a new product always carry out a skin-patch test before use.
