Frankie Edgar doesn't stand tall at 5 feet, 6 inches. Although he doesn't stand tall in a crowd of people, when he is around other people his size he stands out.

Frankie Edgar was born in 1981 in New Jersey. He grew up in the same path that many of the best fighters in the world have grown. Edgar started his fighting career as a wrestler. He was a solid wrestler in high school and managed to qualify for the state tournament three different times. In his best year he managed to finish second in the state. His fighting career did not end there of course. He continued on with it into college.

Edgar attended college at Clarion University of Pennsylvania. While at that university Edgar found a good deal of success and qualified for the national tournament ever y year that he competed. This paved his way towards having a desire to take his fighting skills to the professional level.

To this point in his career he has fought 13 professional fights. In those 13 fights he has only suffered one defeat. That defeat came by way of decision. In his other fights he has managed to stick it out many times until the end. He has gone to the limits of the fight in 8 out of his 13 fights. He has managed to win 7 of the 8 fights that went to decision. This proves that he is able to stick in the ring with anyone and let his toughness take over when the time comes. Edgar has also won 2 fights by way of knockout and 3 more by submission.

With all of this success Edgar has risen to the top of the lightweight world. Many rankings have Edgar ranked as the top fighter in the lightweight division out of any fighter in the world.

To start his career he fought some lower level fights. He managed to win his first five fights and sought to bring his talents to The Ultimate Fighter. He was not chosen by the program to fight and ended up finding his own path into the UFC. In his first fight he took on an undefeated fighter named Tyson Griffin. He fought tough and lasted the distance in order to win by decision. That fight has gone down in history as one of the best fights to ever take place in the UFC.

Edgar lost one fight along the way, but eventually managed to get a chance to challenge BJ Penn for the UFC Lightweight Championship. Edgar managed to take the victory and became the new champion of the division. He is now at the top of the game and will take on Penn in a rematch to retain his belt.
