Raksha Bandhan is to be celebrated on 24th of August 2010. If you want to send Rakhis to India, this is the high time you should book your order on an online store. Online Rakhi shops are the only place to buy Rakhis for non resident Indians. But, if you want to add some heartfelt feelings to your Rakhis, and send sentiments, too, the only way to achieve that touchy effect is create your own Rakhis. Your handmade Rakhis are sure going to be most precious pieces for your brother in India. If you are wondering how to make Rakhis at home, we can guide you through the process. It is quite simple and you would really enjoy doing it. So why not send a handmade Rakhi to India, this year. Here we go!

If you have ever looked at a Rakhi attentively, you know it is nothing but a decorated thread combined creatively with some beads, motifs, religious symbols, pearls or jewels jutted in. So to make yours first Rakhi, try to arrange following material in order first:

- A bunch of colourful silk, wool or cotton threads of good approx 15 in length.
- Beads, sequins, pearls, symbols, or something with which you can create ...
... a motif.
- Scissors to cut everything in required size and
- Glue to paste everything in place

Now for making a colourful Rakhi, pick the bunch of the equal size threads first, say 15-20 approx. You can choose any colour such as Red, Yellow, Saffron or whatever you may like. Add some strands of golden thread if you have got them. Make sure the thread you have chosen are long enough to be tied well on the wrist. Now pick the bunch of threads from top, and tie a tight knot at 2 below the top. You can use a cotton thread to tie the knot. Now rub the open ends with some hard brush to make it fluffy.

Now spread the fluffy part of the threads to form a circle and decorate the front with beads, motifs, sequins or anything that you may have prepared to beautify your Rakhi. Divide the loose threads in two part of equal size and tie them separately with cotton thread at the ends. Your first Rakhi is ready now.

If you want to add some auspicious touch to your Rakhi, than you can use Mouli thread, Rudraksha, or Tulsi beads to make an instant Rakhi. Just cut three equal pieces of Mouli thread in approx 15 size. Tie all the three threads together at the end with a cotton thread. Now plate the three Mouli pieces together, exactly the way you make hair plats. Stop when you have reached half of its length and add Rudraksha or Tulsi beads in one or all three pieces. You can add more than one to get desired shape. Resume the plating until you reach at the end of it. Now tie the ends with same cotton thread as you had done at the starting point.

There is, in fact, no fix definition of how to make Rakhi and there are innumerable ways to do it. All it needs are a little bit of creativity and some free time to do it. You can really make a good Rakhi at home. You can explore the possibilities of designs on internet and choose the best one you can make in available resources. So go ahead, send a handmade Rakhi to India, now.
