When most people think about Louisiana they think about New Orleans and the Mardi Gras scene that takes place each year. The event attracts tons of people into the state and gives the state most of its reputation. When people don't think about Mardi Gras they think of the Cajun culture and food present in Louisiana. The truth is that while these things are prevalent in the state, there are other things that attract the attention of tourists.

The gambling scene in Louisiana is quite popular. Initially the gambling in Louisiana was largely taken part of on riverboats. This use of riverboats has taken place in the state for nearly 20 years. These riverboats would act as casinos and would house people for a trip of gambling. There have been many movies that include this sort of scene and it has become a popular was to gamble in the south.

Despite the presence of riverboat gambling, there are still those that wanted the gambling scene to expand to land casinos. There have been a few different Indian Casinos in the state for years. These Indian Casinos are built on land that is granted to the Native Americans because ...
... of their being kicked out of the area many years ago. Despite the fact that casinos may not be allowed in other areas, the Indians can build casinos and do as they please on their native land. This is something that happens in many different states across the nations. Some states may not even have casinos outside of the Indian casinos that are built up on their reservations.

There are some great land based casinos to choose from in New Orleans. These casinos are in an ideal location. Obviously New Orleans is one of the most popular places for tourists to travel in the southern United States. With this casino so close to the tourism people are able to enjoy the city and also enjoy the gambling scene while they are at it. Unfortunately there has been a hit to the gambling scene in the area.

The hit to the gambling scene came for obvious reasons. The state took in a hurricane that we all remember a few years ago. Hurricane Katrina did more damage to the New Orleans era than just about anything that we have seen in the United States in the modern era. This has a huge hit to the gambling scene. Many casinos were damaged and even close for long periods of time. Just in the last couple of years we have seen the casinos bouncing back and returning to the city. There will always be the danger of something similar happening in the event that another hurricane comes. The city is in poor position to deal with such destruction.

The mix of tourism, culture and casino life should be a great attraction for anyone interested in staying in the United States to gamble. If you don't like New Orleans there are also other opportunities across the state for people to come and gamble at various casinos.
