Printed circuit boards more commonly referred to as PCBs are perhaps one of the most conspicuous global features of our hi-tech society. Today no doubt printed circuit boards can be seen in cars, computers, industrial machinery, and many more electronic gadgets. Still, there is a wide array of printed circuit boards that manufacturers design for a variety of uses. This paper will focus on one such PCB that is widely used and referred to as the LED PCB China. As you’re civil conducts reading, please keep on reading as the information is continued here.

LED PCB

LED PCB stands for LED Printed Circuit Board and it refers to the printed circuit board used for LEDs. These LEDs are then soldered onto the LED printed circuit board and it is by the LED PCB that these diodes turn into light. Because the working of LEDs as a way of producing light leads to the generation of great heat and the fact that they cannot be cooled as other bulbs that use filaments, then there must be a way of heat dissipation from the LEDs.

There could be a heat sink or some specific material such as aluminum ...
... to disperse of this excessive heat. Thus, LED PCBs are made from aluminum (metal core PCBs) due to the following reasons; the materials form a thin thermal conductive dielectric. Aluminum and the dielectric material also support heat dissipation of the aluminum PCB faster than the rigid traditional PCB board. A large and seemingly increasing number of LED devices incorporate a surface-mounted structure in the packaging. However, as the SMD only supports a single LED we need more light for optimum illumination of the printed circuit board. It interconnects many an LED element to provide a sufficient amount of light.

The LED Lighting Industry

LED lighting like any other industry has and is continuing to grow to become one of the most effective and efficient lighting solutions.

Benefits of LED lighting

Longer life cycle – there is evidence that one light LED light can serve a user for up to 25000 hours. It has a life expectancy of 420 hours and is 23 times longer than the standard bulb and thus a money saver as one does not need to replace a bulb frequently.

Incredibly energy-consuming – the efficiency of a standard incandescent light bulb does not exceed 10%, while over 90% of energy is used for heat generation. Unlike an LED, which only emits heat energy of about 20%; therefore, they use more power in lighting your home than in heating.

Portable- because LEDs are small in size, they can be installed in small and big facilities such as traffic lights, sockets, and many others.

Mercury-free LEDs do not contain any mercury which can be hazardous to the environment.

Smaller energy absorption – on average, when you are using an LED instead of an incandescent light bulb, you save 90% of your energy.

Different parts of LED PCB Board

There are four basic layers for the simplest of LED PCBs and the first one is the substrate layer. Because LEDs produce a large amount of heat, the substrate is essentially a metal (aluminum) that can quickly draw out the heat. This metal layer should be isolated from the conductive layer by an insulation layer, with copper traces to form the second layer.

The third layer is known as the solder mask, which covers the metal lines or the traces to avoid short-circuiting, oxidation, or corrosion. Above it, there is the silkscreen where necessary markings and labels as to which parts to install and where to do it are provided.

In this regard, we cannot rule out the mention of the primary electronic components in this board as the 5th element in the stack. LEDs are monochromatic chips composed of semiconductor materials that emit red, blue, or green light if a current is passed through them from the anode to the cathode.

Different LED Printed Circuit Board

Hybrid LED PCB

A hybrid circuit board is a combination of a base metal, usually aluminum, and a non-thermal material like FR4. Hybrid LED PCBs are rigid in form and cost much less compared to other types of PCBs.

Single-layer LED PCB

Single-layer LED PCB Board simply has a single layer of the copper conductive substrate incorporated into the board.

The metal layer used by manufacturers is made of copper because copper is a material that conducts electricity well.

Single-layer LED PCBs are easy to design and less costly compared to the other types of LED PCBs and are highly flexible.

Flexible LED Circuit Boards

As suggested by the name, this type of PCB Board is very easy to bend and manipulate in almost any way.

Flexible LED PCBs are generally preferred over rigid PCBs since you can bend a flexible LED PCB in different directions or even fold it.

Multilayer LED PCB

In a multilayer LED PCB China, there are multiple copper conductive layers located between insulating layers. Holes made of copper plates connect the layers.

Moreover, the materials are joined with the help of strong glue that helps the materials to stay put.

A basic multilayer LED PCB has four layers, but there are some complex ones designed for certain functions that have 50 layers.

Rigid LED PCB

A rigid LED PCB comprises solid materials that also serve as substrates.

Rigid LED PCBs are generally used in applications where the LED PCB needs to maintain certain shapes and these are suitable for computers and remote controls.

Single, double, and multilayer LED PCBs are some of the types of rigid PCBs that are available in the market.

Aluminum PCBs for the LED Lights

Basics of Aluminum PCB

LED metal-core PCBs are mostly made from an aluminum alloy base having magnesium, silumin, and aluminum. The proportions of these elements are adjusted in such a manner as to provide the maximum thermal conductance. Because aluminum is electrically conductive, a thermally conductive layer must be put between the base and copper traces, with ceramic polymers being the best option.

This material gives the viscoelastic and thermal resistance characteristics to safeguard the rest of the PCB from thermal and mechanical abuse by first dissipating the heat to the aluminum.

Advantages of Aluminum PCB for LED Lights

Aluminum is cheaper than ceramic and other metals so these types of LED PCBs in China are cheaper. It also works as a good heat dissipation medium for the circuit. It is also easy to recycle, non-toxic, and considerably lighter and stronger than fiberglass (FR4) and ceramics. In thermal conductivity, Ceramic competes with aluminum as no insulation layer is needed by it. However, the aluminum PCBs’ performance for LEDs is boosted by the ceramic polymer dielectric.
