Specialized car designs may incorporate hatches, vents, louvres, insulation, or other features. Component joints must be properly sealed to prevent intrusion of moisture or dust. Various hardware facilitates loading and unloading of freight railcars. Hatches or doors allow access for loading equipment. Bulkhead doors permit roll-on/roll-off capability. Retractable platforms and fittings accommodate containers, trailers or racks. Specialized fittings like anchor points, air lines and electrical connections serve specific cargo types such as intermodal containers or tank cars. Proper care and maintenance ensures loading hardware functions reliably throughout its service life.
