Western nations were forged on the backs of people who loved children.

Farms that were overflowing with littles.

Cities with children running around everywhere.

Ok ok. I know that there were downsides too...

Problems with child labor. Survival rates. Abuse and trauma.

Heck there are even arguments that [abortion and birth control "solved" the 1990s crime wave](https://freakonomics.com/). (To their credit, Freakonomics identified the correlation but did not connect child-killing to crime-fighting).

No matter what the data show. And what hardships there were in the past.

Children have value.

As the Bible says, "Children are a heritage from the Lord. The fruit of the womb is a reward... And blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them!" - Psalm 127

But times have changed.

People are waiting longer and longer to have kids.

And they are having fewer and fewer.

This attacks the birth rate on both "time to child-rearing age" and "how many kids once you get there."

And boom. The birth rate is dropping like a rock.

Not a rock picked up ...
... by a child. Loved. Named. And carried around everywhere, mind you.

Nope. A rock falling from the cliff of our financial and societal success!!

We are running out of time to make a difference!

So what difference can we make!?

First off... let's love kids ourselves. Raising children... caring for children... teaching children... it can be hard!

Instead of focusing on the challenges. [Let's focus on the things to be thankful for](https://www.100daysofkids.com). That is what I am doing at 100daysofkids.com

For the 100 days of summer... I am writing about 1 reason I am thankful for children every day. You should join me! Use #100DaysOfKids on social media.

We should also support businesses that make children a priority. [Benetist](https://www.benetist.com) is working on quality software to improve the lives of families and children in the culture. We are in early days, building software like [QR Code generators](https://www.fizzly.io) and [tech training](https://www.problemtosolve.com) but that is the long term vision!

And [MarsX](https://www.marsx.dev) is run by a founder innovating new and decentralized approaches to value children and their caregivers in the tech world.

So what difference can you make?

A huge one!

But it starts one day at a time.
