The Komodo Dragon, a behemoth in the reptile world, reigns supreme as the largest living lizard. Boasting a prehistoric look and impressive size, these incredible creatures hold unique features and characteristics.

Size and Strength: Reaching a staggering 10 feet (3 meters) in length and weighing up to 300 pounds (135 kg), the Komodo Dragon dwarfs other lizards. Their powerful limbs and sharp claws enable them to be surprisingly agile for their size, even climbing trees when young.

Predatory Prowess: Komodo Dragons are apex predators with a fearsome reputation. Their serrated teeth, up to an inch long, can inflict devastating wounds. But their secret weapon lies in their saliva, teeming with bacteria that can weaken and eventually kill prey through septicemia.

Island Dwellers: Hailing from Indonesia's Lesser Sunda Islands, Komodo Dragons are an endangered species. These solitary creatures spend their days hunting or basking in the sun, only coming together to mate.

Keen Senses: Despite their reptilian image, Komodo Dragons boast a surprisingly keen sense of smell. Their long, forked tongue flickers ...
... to capture scent particles, allowing them to locate prey from miles away.

Masters of Camouflage: Komodo Dragons utilize their grey or brown coloration to blend seamlessly with their surroundings. This advantage allows them to stalk prey undetected before launching a surprise attack.

Running and Swimming: While not the picture of speed, Komodo Dragons can burst into short sprints of up to 12 mph (20 km/h). They're also surprisingly adept swimmers, allowing them to navigate between islands.

A Vulnerable Giant: Sadly, habitat loss and human conflict threaten Komodo Dragon populations. Conservation efforts are underway to protect these remarkable creatures and ensure their survival for generations to come.
