Spasms of the pectoral muscles can also cause chest pain. This often occurs due to muscle strain or improper physical activity. The pain in such cases can be acute and intensify with movement or deep inspiration.

Chest pain can be caused by psychogenic causes such as stress, anxiety, or panic attacks. In these cases, the pain can mimic symptoms of heart disease, which can cause the person to panic. These symptoms usually respond to psychotherapy, relaxation techniques, or anti-anxiety medications.
