High Performance Ibm Slr 60 Tape Drive
With ongoing data accessibility and integrity becoming increasingly important to the organization's success, the demand for high speed backup media has rapidly increased. So are you ready to handle these high storage demands? You will be if you select the high performance IBM SLR tape technology.
SLR (Scalable Linear Recording) is the best tape storage medium for the mid-range network servers and the high end workstations. SLR tape format was first introduced in 1987. The SLR tape technology was then enhanced to MLR (multi-channel linear recording). Therefore the SLR tape format is also called as SLR-MLR technology. SLR tape format has mainly evolved through three versions including SLR-100, SLR-60 and SLR-7 tape. SLR-MLR tape technology provides greater reliability, scalability, capacity and outstanding backward compatibility to provide access to the existing tape generations.
IBM has developed a highly robust SLR-60 7207 external tape drive, whose media capacity has been extended to 60 GB (compressed). IBM SLR-60 external drive is engineered to deliver unmatched performance for the IBM pSeries/RS6000 and ...
... iSeries/AS400 servers.
IBM SLR tape family provides up to 140 GB compressed capacity. Therefore the data administrators can cost efficiently address their increasing capacity requirements. IBM SLR-60 drive is more advantageous because it writes the data on four parallel tracks, which results in exceptional reliability. On the other hand the SLR-7 tape drives record the data on two parallel tracks. Recording of data on four tracks enables the SLR-60 tape drive to efficiently retrieve the data even if the tape media is damaged. That is why the IBM SLR-60 tape technology is the customers' top choice for long term data storage.
IBM has further enhanced the storage capacity and introduced new higher capacity IBM SLR-60 tape cartridges that offer 37.5 GB native and 75GB compressed capacity. IBM SLR-60 drive is backward read compatible with SLR-5 tape cartridges. The drive can reliably perform read and write operations on IBM 75 GB SLR-60 tapes as well. For greater backup performance, the transfer rate of IBM SLR-60 tape drive has been increased to 8 MB/s compressed or 4 MB/s native. Data is compressed by SLR drives at 2:1.
Top brands of SLR-60 and SLR-7 tapes are:

State-of-the-art technologies have been introduced by IBM in its SLR tape products. IBM has employed an internal self cleaning mechanism in SLR-60 drive that helps to protect the tape media and drive components from the damaging effects of accumulated debris. The drive's self-test functionality helps to optimize the read/write operations and ensure improved reliability during harsh working conditions. IBM SLR-60 tape drives feature fewer moving parts that ensure safe transpiration and handling of tape drives. The drive has an ultra-2 SCSI LVD (68 pin) interface.
IBM rigorously tests its tape products to assure their reliability and compatibility. IBM makes sure that the clients get high quality products that comply with the industry standards and exceed the user's expectations.
