Lenovo's latest global CIO report emphasizes AI as the top priority for CIOs, showcasing a shift towards core IT functions. Titled "Inside the Tornado: How AI is Reshaping Corporate IT Today," the report stresses the critical need for CIOs to embrace and expand AI, despite facing obstacles related to speed, security, and organizational preparedness.

CIOs are increasingly focusing on AI/ML (51%) in addition to cybersecurity, underlining the urgency to make a business impact. The report discloses that 84% of CIOs are now judged based on business outcomes, highlighting the importance of delivering tangible results.

Ken Wong, President of Lenovo's Solutions and Services Group, characterizes today's CIOs as navigating an "innovation tornado," with AI prompting them to recenter on their primary responsibilities. Despite challenges, CIOs are positive about AI's potential, with 80% believing that AI advancements will greatly benefit their organizations.

Nevertheless, CIOs pinpoint speed of adoption and security as key obstacles to scaling AI. Many areas within their organizations are not yet AI-ready, hindering the pace of AI integration. Difficulties in measuring ROI persist, with 61% struggling to demonstrate returns on tech investments.
