BlackBerry Limited has just released its most recent Global Threat Intelligence Report, which highlights threat actors concentrating on high-value data within the global financial sector. Over the course of 120 days, there were one million attacks recorded. This strategy, known as "death by a million cuts," primarily involves the use of commodity malware, suggesting that numerous independent actors are targeting the industry for financial gain. Attacks on critical infrastructure, such as those aimed at government, financial, healthcare, and communications sectors, made up 62 percent of industry-related attacks from September to December 2023.

The BlackBerry Threat Research and Intelligence team observed a 27 percent increase in new malware, with 3.7 malicious samples per minute being blocked by their AI-powered cybersecurity solutions, up from 2.9 per minute in the previous reporting period. In total, BlackBerry® cybersecurity solutions thwarted 31 attacks every minute, marking a 19 percent rise from the previous period.

Since AI is already being utilized by malicious entities, it must also be the primary tool for detection and defense."
