Htc Tattoo: Making A Good Impression
Touch screen phones are dominating the market today with manufacturers struggling to shell out units that can compete with the immensely popular - albeit expensive - iPhone from the folks down at Apple.
Part of the means designed to conquer the giant that is the iPhone is the development of the Android mobile phone operating system from an equally - if not more enormous - player in the IT and tech market, Google. Various manufacturers have latched on to the system, employing it in their own mobile phones. What sets Android apart from the pack is that it is an open source language operating system, meaning anyone can take it and modify it to fit into their mobile phone's hardware infrastructure.
One such manufacturer is HTC, which has come out with a new touch screen called the HTC Tattoo. There is no lack of features for the Tattoo, which comes out with a good enough 2.8 inches resistive touch screen with a QVGA resolution, and 3G connectivity with HSDPA at 7.2 Mbps. With dimensions of 106 x 55.2 x 14 mm and a weight of 113 ...
... grams, it's quite a nifty gadget that is very mobile and portable while delivering all the functions and features of a touch screen smart phone. The onboard random access memory (RAM) is above average at 256MB and a 512MB read only memory (ROM) - although an expansion through an additional microSD card (sold separately) is possible up to 16GB. The Tattoo also has Wi-Fi connectivity.
Entertainment options are quite standard with the usual music file compatibilities, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The camera leaves a bit to be desired because while it can take 3.15 megapixel pictures, the Tattoo suffers from a lack of auto focus and flash, with camera functions trimmed to the very bare minimum.
Durability is okay with a standard plastic build, but it does not feel cheap to the touch. The handset, since it is a bit smaller compared to other touch screens might take a little time getting used to, but it is very comfortable to use once you've gotten the hang out of it/Compared to other touch screens, this handset is a bit smaller so that you might take a little time getting used to, but it is very comfortable to use once you get familiar with it. There is also the option to have custom covers, which will be very appealing to people who like to have a distinct outer look for their mobiles/Custom covers are available with this phone, which will be very appealing to people who like to have a dinstinct outer look for their mobiles. Internally, there are also a lot of customization options many will surely appreciate. However, one weakness of the HTC is its screen's difficulty to adjust to bright sunlight, making the handset hard to use if you are standing in direct sunlight/However, this phone fails to adjust to bright sunlight, making it is hard to read in direct sunlight.
Battery life is one of the major considerations in any mobile device, and here, the HTC performs fairly well. Talk time is estimated at around 7 and a half hours, with a standby time of about 520 hours/Battery life of the HTC Tattoo performs fairly well with around 7 and a half hours of talk time as well as about 520 hours of standby time. The Tattoo also scores additional points for a great user interface, but is hardly given justice because of the QVGA screen quality. The phone is quite responsive though, with no complaints.
The HTC Tattoo is mediocre in some aspects and excellent in others, but before you pass a harsh judgment, remember that the Tattoo is not an elite, high end phone and does not carry a hefty price tag. The price range it belongs to more than justifies what's lacking in this stout little handset and for people who want to experience a stable mobile touch screen smart phone, the HTC Tattoo might just be the thing for them.
