There are various makes in laptop computers available today, so the repair system is almost different for each one. The repair system can vary significantly from model to model.

Let us have a look on few simple steps on how to repair your computer just in order to keep it running smoothly and cool. On few laptop models, it is very simple to remove and clean up the CPU fan, but on few others you require skilled technician or experts to do this job. Cleaning your computer fan, for instance of an Acer Extensa can be simple.

To start the process, you will require the following things:
1. Tube of thermal paste
2. Can of compressed air
3. Small screw driver

Initially, start with removing all the five screws at the bottom of your laptop. Then gently pry up the laptop cover. You might hear a little popping noise while removal of the cover but do not panic it should not come out with any problem. Next step is to remove the five screws that hold down the heat sink and rest of the two screws holding down your CPU fan. Be careful as there is a connector attached to the laptop fan, make ...
... sure that you pull out the plastic connector to remove it, see to it you do not pull on the cable.

Second step is to remove the heat sink from the laptop and then spray it with the can of compressed air just in order to blow off any dirt and dust that has accumulated. Then you remove the fan and repeat the process with the fan but ensure you hold the wheel of the fan in place while you blow it with the air. Make sure that the fan does not spin since the blades are quiet delicate and they may get damaged.

As a final point, and the last step of the laptop repair is to examine the heat sink and check the thermal paste that is sitting on a tiny copper plate. Check if it is hardened or cracked. If the paste has a consistency similar to the toothpaste, you do not require replacing it. On the other hand if it has hardened, take some thin plastic piece or any other thing to gently scrape off the hard material accumulated on both the heat sink as well as the plate inside the computer. Do not make use of knife or any metal object just to insure you do not scratch out the copper surface. Now when you are all set to apply new thermal paste, first wipe out the surfaces with a paper tissue and then simply blow off again with the help of compressed air. Put just a little dab of the paste on the heat sink as well and evenly spread it and replace the part into the computer.

Now you are ready to put the laptop fan back with the screws and make sure you reattach the connector as well.
