The mobile phone market, specifically the smartphone market is very saturated nowadays, with manufacturers big and small racing to put their latest offerings on the market.

One such offering is the Snap, a full QWERTY handset from HTC, a manufacturer that was little known for before, and is now gaining popularity for its quality handsets. Many carry the Android operating system for mobile phones, developed as an open source project by IT and tech giant Google. HTC was one of the first to embrace the system, which turned out to be very stable and performance wise, gives other mobile phone operating systems like Windows Mobile or the iPhone OS a run for their money.

The HTC Snap, however, runs on a Windows 6.1 platform (which can be upgraded, by the way, to the more recent Windows Mobile 6.5), which, for many, can be a good or bad thing. However, before any judgments are passed, you might want to consider that it is very similar to a Blackberry, down to the trackball as the main physical navigational tool. ... little package to have/The HTC Snap runs on a Windows 6.1 platform (which can be upgraded, by the way, to the more recent Windows Mobile 6.5), which, however, can be a good or bad thing for many. But before you make any judgements, you might want to consider that it is very similar to a Blackberry, down to the trackball as the main physical navigational tool. Belonging to a reasonable price range, and with the functionality it offers, the Snap is a very nifty little package to have.

It's a bit heavy as mobile phones go, weighing 120 grams with dimensions of 116.5 x 61.5mm on the long and short sides respectively, and has a thickness of 12 mm. resolution is standard at 320x240 pixels on a 2.4 inch screen/It is a bit heavy at dimensions of 116.5 x 61.5 x 12mm as well as weighing 120 grams. And it sports a 2.4 inch screen at a resolution of 320x240 pixels. As mentioned, the keypad is full QWERTY, and the ROM stands at 256MB with 192MB RAM. Memory is expandable up to 16GB, so its really not that bad. The Snap supports both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, but alas, has no Infrared/Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity are both available, but Infrared is absent. Frequent internet surfers will also take heart in the knowledge that this phone also has 3G, which stands at and High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) speed of 7.2 Mbps.

So far, so good

At first glance, the outer looks of the HTC Snap are very simple, yet stylish. The QWERTY keypad is very tactile, although users with big fingers might have issue with the way the Snap's keys are bunched up together. The trackball performance is okay, with various sensitivity modes you can customize to suit your use.

The camera is mediocre at best, with 2 megapixels. Video capability is also present, but do not expect anything flashy. Video and music playback is also average - tolerable, but not something to go wow over. However, there is a feature of the Snap called the ‘Inner Circle' which filters messages to show only those from selected contacts/The camera is pretty ordinary with 2 megapixels. But the Snap has a feature called the ‘Inner Circle' which filters messages to show only those from selected contacts.

The battery life of the HTC Snap is very impressive though, with talk time being at 8 and half hours on 2G, but when the 3G is on, the length drops to about five hours. 3G on also affects standby time with 380 hours compared to the 480 hours with the phone running on 2G only/The battery life is also very good, with talk time being at 8 and half hours on 2G while 5 hours on 3G, as well as 380 hours of standby on 3G while 480 hours on 2G.

All in all, the HTC Snap is a great addition to the line of lower end smart phones. It has just the right number of features but not anything too flashy or impressive. But since price is always a major consideration for any mobile phone, the HTC Snap might just be the phone for someone looking for a stable and functional business smartphone that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
