Merck Research Labs and Variational AI, developers of the Enki™ generative AI platform for drug development, have partnered through the CQDM Quantum Leap program. Merck, an early-access customer of the Enki™ Platform, will assess its ability to create innovative small compounds targeting specific targets.

The Enki™ Platform uses generative AI to simplify drug discovery. The foundation model Enki™ generates unique, selective, and synthesizable lead-like structures. Like DALL-E and Midjourney, it generates new images from prompts. In Enki™, a target product profile (TPP) prompts enable molecular descriptions in chemistry. To fulfill the TPP, Enki™ quickly creates diverse, selective, and synthesizable lead-like structures for further examination by chemists.

Pharmaceutical businesses are increasingly using proprietary AI algorithms to uncover and enhance their own assets. Variational AI allows chemists to propose TPPs and receive unique structures in days, speeding lead optimization.

Variational AI CEO Handol Kim welcomed Merck as an early-access user of the Enki™ Platform. Merck will evaluate Enki's potential to create target-specific small molecules through this collaboration. Kim stressed the significance of AI adoption in drug development, highlighting Enki™ as a solution for chemists who choose not to create their own generative AI models.
