Different Types Of Rocking Chairs For Functionality, Comfort & Style

Have you ever wondered why the chair you’ve often seen in horror movies can be a valuable addition to your home? Yes, we are talking about the ones that rock back and forth. Those chairs might scare you in movies but practically can be extremely useful.
Researchers have found that rocking chairs can serve various health benefits such as healing back pain, improving blood circulation, and releasing stress. Expectant mothers often get a rocker at home to soothe infants to sleep. However, that is not where it all ends. This piece of furniture can be both functional and stylish.
We have seen our grandfathers always rocking on this piece of furniture as its swaying motion can help with body movement and exercise. It helps patients with arthritis too. This piece of furniture is also treated as a piece of heirloom in some families. Let us explore the various types and designs.
Traditional Rocking Chair
A traditional-style wooden rocker mainly has a rustic appearance. Earlier, it was designed without any upholstery and looked aesthetic ...
... featuring slats in the backrest. Now, you can find some of them upholstered too. This style of rocker moves back and forth on two curved pieces of wood and provides relaxation. It is durable and affordable as well but occupies too much floor area. The aesthetic beauty can match a rustic or royal decor theme.
Gliders
A glider rocking chair uses the support of levels and hinges to move in a back-and-forth motion. However, unlike the traditional wooden rocking chairs, this one moves on a flat plane rather than in an arc motion.
Its motion attains a bit of stability to recline and one can both recline and rock at the same time. But, it has more mechanical parts and can wear off after some time. Due to the modern upholstery and advanced features, this style of rocker is a bit expensive.
Spring design
This style of rocking chair is a bit more complex and quite a blend of both the traditional ones and gliders. They rock back and forth like the traditional chair but have the support of mounted springs.
The springs are hidden away beneath a box at the base of the structure so that the chair still looks visually appealing and no children or pets get harmed by getting their little fingers stuck into the mechanical parts. These rockers are available in a medium price range.
Swivel chair
This rocking chair is designed in a way that it can move a whole 360 degrees. The swivel mechanism can also be added to gliders or spring rockers as it adds the comfort of you wanting to move around to another desk while working.
These can work as an alternative to office chairs and are a bit expensive due to more advanced features. However, there is a risk of breakage and parts wearing off too soon.
Recliner
These are chaise lounges that are designed to relax and recline your back while reading a book. However, their mechanism does not allow you to recline and rock at the same time. This wooden rocking chair’s design is upholstered in the finest of fabrics and adds a glam quotient to your living room decor.
