Your general doctor may be able to see external hemorrhoids, but diagnosing internet ones will require an anal and rectum examination. The hemorrhoid doctor may conduct a digital exam. This means inserting a gloved and lubricated finger into your rectum to see if there is anything unusual. They may do a visual inspection, using a tool that has a camera. In some cases, they may recommend a colonoscopy, so they can view your colon.

A colonoscopy is only offered if your symptoms suggest you have a digestive system problem or you have a high risk of colorectal cancer. Also, anyone middle-aged who hasn't had a recent colonoscopy may be encouraged to have one.

Some hemorrhoids can be treated at home, while others require medical attention. You can treat mild pain, swelling, and inflammation at home by eating a high-fiber diet. This helps soften your stools, avoiding the risk of straining when going to the bathroom.

There are topical treatments you can buy such as hemorrhoid cream or suppositories. Soaking in a warm bath can also help. Soak in a bath for up to fifteen minutes two to three times a day. You can ...
... also take over-the-counter pain medication to help in relieving the pain. In some cases, the hemorrhoids go away within a week. If you don't find relief after a few days, then contact a hemorrhoid doctor for further assistance and treatment.

Hemorrhoids often produce mid discomfort and your doctor may recommend suppositories, creams, or ointments that can be purchased without a prescription. If you have a painful hemorrhoid, it means a blood clot may have formed within the external hemorrhoid. This can be removed. Removal provides instant relief. This procedure is done under local anesthetic and is best done within seventy-two hours of the clot forming.

Haemorrhoid doctors may recommend a minimally invasive procedure, such as rubber band ligation. This is used if the bleeding doesn't stop or your hemorrhoid is too painful. This is done in an outpatient setting. The doctor places one to two tiny rubber bands around the base of the internal hemorrhoid to cut off blood flow, causing it to wither and fall off within a week.

They may also recommend scierotherapy where a chemical solution is injected directly into the tissues, causing it to shrink. Another minimally invasive therapy is coagulation, using laser, heat, or infrared light. It causes small, bleeding internal hemorrhoids to shrivel and harden with few side effects.

The good news is that only a very small percentage of hemorrhoid patients require surgery to remove them. If any of the home treatments or minimally invasive treatments have not been successful, your hemorrhoid doctor may recommend surgery. Haemorrhoidectomy is the most common where the surgeon removes extra tissues that cause the bleeding. This is done under local anesthetic with a calming medicine to help you relax. It is the most effective way to treat severe or recurring hemorrhoids.

Haemorrhoid stapling is another procedure that blocks the blood flow to the tissue. This is only used for internal hemorrhoids. It is less painful than a haemorrhoidectomy and you can return to your regular activities relatively quickly. Stapling comes with a higher risk of the hemorrhoids returning.

Complications of stapling include bleeding, pain, and problems emptying your bladder. In some very rare cases, you may experience sepsis. Your hemorrhoid doctor will discuss your options with you so you can make the best-informed decision.
