With mild temperature, bright and warm days and crisp sky, Nepal has the best weather to visit during the Christmas and New Year holiday. December and January are the winter months in Nepal. However the vertically rising landscape from tropical planes to the Himalayas peaks has different weather. December is known as a shoulder season as there are few high altitude treks. But it is the best time for short treks, cultural sightseeing, tours of hill stations, jungle safaris and pilgrimage tours of India and Nepal.

Book your logistics in advance as it is a brief trekking season again.
You can walk in shorts during the day but need some warm cloth handy in a daypack. 
Pack the best for the cold. Pack warm clothes inlayers for short treks.
You need down jackets for trek to base camp.
Carry a hot bag / flask to warm your bed at night in the mountains.

While trekkers thin out in the main trails, it is still the season for short treks and tropical destinations like Lumbini, Chitwan, Bardia and other Buddhist sites.

The trail passes through dense Rhododendron forest with cascading waterfalls and charming villages. The Ghorepani at the 2,800 m ridgetop is overlooking the peaks of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range. There are several meditations caves of Guru Rinpoche ( Padmashambhava ), Naropa, Tilopa and Milarepa. The Himalayan valleys have always been hidden in Shangri-la with high spiritual energy. Pilgrimages to Gosaikunda Lake, Muktinath and Mt Kailash were prehistoric and are revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. Guru Rinpoche is believed to hide scriptures for future in some of these valleys known as Beyuls or kyimolung, the happy valleys.
