Secrets To Clearer, Healthier Skin: A Teenage Boy's Guide To Skincare
With lots of physical changes and wild hormonal imbalances occurring in the body, being a teenager is not so easy. You get frustrated when everyone tells you what to do and what not. In addition to this, facing skin issues like acne can make your experience even worse. However, having acne is totally normal, and almost everyone faces this at some point in their life. But acne and other skin conditions can create so much unhappiness in your life and make you feel less confident.
For teenagers, it is hard to understand how to take proper care of their skin. If you are a teenage boy trying to figure out what are the best skin care products and how to use them effectively, here is everything you need to know:
Understanding Teen Skin
Teen skin, no doubt, is biologically different from the adult skin. The bodies of teenage boys go through so many physical and hormonal changes that it is obvious for their skin to react. This is the primary reason why most teenagers face skin problems like acne. These problems can become even more irritating when you unknowingly use the wrong products. ...
... Skincare for teenage boys can be easy, but only when they understand their skin type and use the right products accordingly.
Teen skin can be majorly categorized into four types as listed below:
Oily Skin: Oily skin has a greasy texture and visible pores, which is a result of excess sebum production. This type of skin is prone to acne breakouts and factors that affect hormones (such as increased stress levels) can trigger them.
Dry Skin: Dry skin, opposite to oily skin, suffers from a lack of hydration and moisture. Dry skin looks flaky, sometimes red, and may feel itchy.
Normal Skin: Normal skin has the perfect amount of oil and water. This type of skin is less prone to acne and other skin problems.
Combination skin: Combination skin is a combination of oily and dry skin. People with this skin type have an oily T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin area) while other areas of the face have dry skin. This skin type is also prone to acne, such as blackheads.
Skincare for Teenage Boys: Important Tips
Once you understand your skin type, you can prepare a suitable skincare routine. Your skincare products should not be random, but your choice must depend upon your skin type. Here are some essential skincare tips for teenage boys that will help you take proper care of your skin:
1. Use a Gentle Face Cleanser
Cleansing your face should be the first step of your skincare routine. Some face cleansers are too harsh on teen skin and extract all the essential oils from your skin. You should avoid using such cleansers, especially if you have dry skin. Try to go for a gentle cleanser and cleanse your face using your fingertips in a circular motion. To keep your skin healthy from within, it is advisable to wash your face twice a day, after waking up and before going to bed.
2. Don’t Ever Skip Moisturizer
Many teenage boys skip the moisturizer and wonder why their skin looks lifeless. This is because moisturizer is essential for your skin, irrespective of the weather. You don’t only need a moisturizer in winter, but also in summer. If you have an oily skin type, you can go for a light gel-based moisturizer, but not using it at all would be a bad idea. On the other hand, teens having dry skin type can choose heavy cream-based moisturizers. Moisturize your skin after every wash to avoid a dull and lifeless look.
3. Apply Sunscreen Everyday
To protect your skin against sunburns, tanning, and other skin problems, sunscreen is a must. Sunscreens come with different SPF numbers (generally from 15 to 50), which define their ability to protect your skin against sunburns. The higher the SPF, the higher the sunscreen’s protection ability. As a teen, you can start with an SPF 30 sunscreen and as your skin gets used to it, you can switch to an SPF 50. Fabbeu’s Sun Stoppable Sunscreens, which are specifically prepared for teenagers, are good options to consider.
4. Don’t Touch Your Face Very Often
Many teen boys have a habit of touching their face often unnecessarily. This is something you need to avoid. Every time you touch your face, you transfer the dirt from your hands to your face. The skin of your face is extra sensitive and reacts quickly to dirt and unwanted ingredients. Therefore, it is advised not to touch your face until it is necessary. Even if you have to, try to wash your hands before that.
5. Exfoliate Regularly
Exfoliation is another essential step to include in your everyday skincare routine. Your skin builds up dirt and dead skin cells over time, which makes it difficult for your skin to absorb the skincare products effectively. Dead skin cells also make your skin look dull and non-smooth. By exfoliating once or twice every week, you can give your skin a smooth texture and allow your skincare products to work more effectively. But don’t exfoliate too often as it makes your skin extra dry.
Choose Suitable Skincare Products as per Your Skin Type
You should choose your skincare products only after understanding what your skin type is. With so many options available in the market, it can be overwhelming to make the right choice. But by filtering out some relevant brands like Fabbeu, which are targeted at teens and Gen-Z, you can make the task easier for yourself. Just make sure not to skip moisturizer and sunscreen ever.
