Looking At The Lower Eyelid Lift: Who Qualifies?
All over the world people are aware of their appearance and how they are perceived by others. We also know that eye contact is important in communication – often with the speakers’ focus on one another’s eyes. Therefore, to make sure you look good and can converse as an equal, you may wish to consider a lower blepharoplasty in London, or wherever you find yourself and where you have access to good medical care – and the services of a good oculoplastic surgeon.
You want to see an eye specialist with specific skills, one that often performs blepharoplasty on the lower eyelid for cosmetic or aesthetic reasons.
WHAT IS BLEPHAROPLASTY?
In short: it is a procedure done by an eye surgeon who specialises in cosmetic and/or reconstructive surgeries to the areas around the eye, whereby the lower eyelid is ‘lifted’ to ensure a more attractive appearance once more. It is a fairly straightforward procedure when undertaken by an experienced professional such as an oculoplastic surgeon, for example, London’s Miss Shams – and others - that offers this procedure to those candidates who qualify for it. This ...
... is still one of the most common cosmetic procedures requested by patients to improve their appearance.
WHY DO PATIENTS REQUEST THE PROCEDURE?
With aging comes changes everywhere in the body. Aging also affects the lower eyelid and is a natural process in the individual’s periorbital tissues, those tissues surrounding the orbit of the eye, which is a bony structure that houses several extraocular muscles, blood vessels, and nerves, for example.
The changes to the area around the eye often necessitate the input of a cosmetic eye surgeon – if you are concerned about your appearance. Most often this change to the area surrounding the eye presents as an unsightly bag under the eye; it looks puffy, swollen, and unattractive. Therefore eye surgeons that offer cosmetic services, such as a lower blepharoplasty in London, Manchester, Berlin, or Amsterdam, are approached for advice – and for surgery.
TECHNIQUES – EXAMPLES
Surgeons use different techniques to offer their patients the solution to their concerns about their appearance in this regard. The surgeon will have a consultation with the patient to establish which technique will be the most appropriate to remove those unsightly bags underneath the eye. For instance, these days more surgeons look at alternatives to purely subtractive techniques such as the total removal of fat in the eyelid; now, instead, more surgeons also consider fat repositioning in the lid, as well as other appropriate techniques. As is the case throughout the medical world, techniques are constantly measured and adjusted if possible. This is also true for the techniques surgeons use in the blepharoplasty.
SOME BACKGROUND
The blepharoplasty on the lower eyelid (it can also be performed on the upper lid) has evolved during the last 100 years. In the 1920’s of the previous century, for example, surgeons already used the resection of excess skin under the eye/lower eyelid. In those years it was customary to use a transconjunctival approach which is still used today, i.e. whereby an incision is made through the conjunctiva (a mucous membrane that lines the inside of your eyelids)of the lower eyelid to affect skin and fat resection. Another, more ‘modern’ technique was developed and in the 1950s the so-called subtractive blepharoplasty became widely known among cosmetic eye surgeons.
BENEFITS
After a successful blepharoplasty to the lower eyelid, patients normally report of greater self-confidence as the procedure improves their appearance. Gone are those sagging, puffy bags under the lower eyelid, so that individuals feel other people will no longer see the effects and signs of aging (often early aging) and that they can face the world without feeling self-conscious about their facial appearance.
