Proper nutrition is a fundamental aspect of maintaining health and well-being, and it’s especially important for individuals with disabilities. The National Disability Insurance
Scheme (NDIS) recognises the unique challenges that people with disabilities face in accessing and managing a healthy diet. Through the NDIS Nutrition supports, including meal preparation, individuals with disabilities can receive the necessary assistance, guidance, and equipment to ensure they meet their specific dietary and nutritional needs.

Good nutrition is vital for overall health and well-being, and it is no different for people with disabilities. NDIS understands that a participant’s disabilities may pose unique barriers to accessing and maintaining a healthy diet. As a result, NDIS funds Nutrition supports, which can include various forms of assistance, such as the provision of dietary supplements or the involvement of a dietitian to develop a customised meal plan. Additionally, it can involve enlisting someone’s help to ensure that the participant adheres to the meal plan. Also, if the participant’s disability hinders their ...
... ability to plan, shop for, and prepare meals independently, assistance will be provided in these areas through NDIS Nutrition Supports. In specific cases, Nutrition Support may extend to having meals prepared and brought to the participant as well. Home enteral nutrition (HEN) and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) equipment that are necessary for those who cannot consume food orally are also funded under the NDIS. It is important to remember that Nutrition Supports funded by NDIS are specifically for disabilities-related nutrition needs and won’t cover health issues unrelated to the participant’s disability, such as weight loss, eating disorders, food allergies, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, renal disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome, or irritable bowel syndrome.

Aussie Life Care works closely with qualified healthcare professionals when it comes to providing Nutrition supports to our participants. We have always strived to enhance the lives and health of those living with disabilities and Nutrition support is an essential aspect of that.
