Puerto Vallarta Real Estate - Almost 50 Years Of Hollywood Romance
It was in the early 60's when Hollywood first discovered the potential of Puerto Vallarta, at the time a little more than a fishing village on Mexico's Pacific coast with a steadily growing expat community in the neigbhorhood known as "Gringo Gulch." Since then, Puerto Vallarta real estate has continued to grow, and Hollywood has continued to see the value of this town for shooting great movies.
From its not-so-humble beginnings in the neighborhood where Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor fell in love for the first time (with several fallings in and out of love yet to come) during the filming of "Night of the Iguana," the expat community in Puerto Vallarta has grown to include about 50,000 Americans and a large group of Canadians. The high priced "Gringo Gulch" area is definitely not the only option, and probably not the best.
Beautiful Puerto Vallarta beachfront condos, or ...
... condos on the hillside overlooking the old town and the bay are available in many communities, some, such as Nuevo Vallarta, a bit further from town, but already established as a favorite for expats. Up-and-coming areas just beginning to gentrify and gain attention from North American buyers include Alta Vista and El Cerro, both within walking distance to the old town. Prices range from around $200,000 USD to over a million.
The film industry's interest in Puerto Vallarta has also kept growing, most recently reflected in the filming of the U.S. film "The Dark Fields," directed by Neil Burger and starring Bradley Cooper and Robert de Niro, starting in late June, 2010 in the streets of the Historical Center.
Other movies filmed in Puerto Vallarta include "The Caveman" and jungle scenes from "The Predator." Why Puerto Vallarta for so many movies? The combination of a quaint, traditionally Mexican old town, the lush, subtropical jungle surrounding the area and access to modern technical services make the area an ideal choice.
Virtually these same reasons (with the exception of modern services, in general, rather than specific technical necessities) make living in a Puerto Vallarta condo an ideal lifestyle. While no one may wish to re-live the romance of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor (at least not so many times,) in Puerto Vallarta, residents will find culture, activities, fine dining, modern shopping, and much more - even romance, if they want it!
