Our National Park Service has assured that every state in the country maintains at least a sliver (phrazle or a generous wedge) of its most valued areas, from golden sand dunes to hardwood forests, historic sites and iconic monuments to the serpentine trails that traverse the United States. Rock climbers from all over the globe come to Yosemite to test themselves on one of the numerous world-class routes up the 3,000 feet of vertical on El Capitan, while those seeking seclusion may find it in the glaciated peaks and rainforests of Olympic National Park. The Battle of Gettysburg is a must-see for history fans and those just interested in how the United States came to be what it is today. Experiencing something the Service has recognized and protected doesn't even require leaving your own state. Wyoming has a vast night sky full of stars, while Montana's ancient mountains form the country's huge curled spine, making for a beautiful place to spend the night.

While the state of Alabama isn't exactly recognized for its parks, that doesn't mean the National Park Service doesn't have anything ...
... to offer. There was a march from Selma to Montgomery along Route 80 on March 7, 1965, attended by 600 civil rights campaigners. As the protestors approached the Edmund Pettus Bridge, just six blocks away, local authorities confronted them. Over the next several days, Martin Luther King Jr. led two additional attempts at the march, and on Thursday, March 25, more than 25,000 people showed out to trek to Montgomery. On this National Historic Trail, guests may retrace the steps of those who came before them and honor their sacrifice.

Denali National Park is home to North America's highest peak and has six million acres of wilderness with just one road. Caribou, brown bears, moose, Dall sheep, bison, and wolves are just few of the animals that inhabit the woodlands and are commonly seen by tourists. As snow starts to fall in September or October, park access is severely restricted, and many summits remain snow-covered year-round. Summer is peak season for visitors, although a seasoned hiker or camper may opt to go in the spring or autumn when the park is less crowded.
