There can be several reasons for the pathology of the thyroid gland. Problems with this organ can be caused by problems in the functioning of the immune system when the immune system perceives the thyroid gland as something foreign, and it tries to fight it. Another reason is infectious diseases. Problems with the endocrine system can be caused by an unbalanced diet, poor ecology, including radiation, mental health issues, and taking certain medications.

The Symptoms of the Thyroid Disease
Like many other diseases, thyroid pathologies manifest themselves in various symptoms. The patient's task is to notice such symptoms in time and consult an endocrinologist for diagnosis and treatment.

How do thyroid disorders manifest? They are characterized by the following symptoms:
- Increased anxiety. When more hormones are released in the thyroid gland than the body needs, it is forced to speed up all processes. Therefore, the brain receives signals that lead to excessive excitability and anxiety;
- Memory problems, difficulty ...
... concentrating;
- Fatigue. If you sleep a sufficient number of hours, but at the same time you feel depressed and overwhelmed, this is the first signal that you need to visit a doctor. This may mean that an insufficient amount of hormones is synthesized in the thyroid gland;
- Obesity. If in a short time, you have gained weight, while not changing your daily routine, then this may be the cause of problems with the thyroid gland.
- Decreased sex drive. You may feel this symptom with reduced hormone production;
- Disorder of the menstrual cycle. This may be due to a lack or excess of thyroid hormones;
- Rapid heartbeat and high blood pressure;
- High cholesterol. If, with proper nutrition, the analysis shows high cholesterol, this may indicate a disorder in the synthesis of thyroid hormones;
- Pain in muscles and joints;
- Reproductive dysfunction;
- Sensation of a lump in the throat;
- Hair loss, brittle hair, and dry skin;
- Disrupted heat exchange.

If you find any of the listed symptoms, and even more so if there are several of them, be sure to contact your family doctor or endocrinologist for diagnosis and timely treatment.

Diagnosis
An endocrinologist deals with the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases.

The gold standard for diagnosing pathologies of the endocrine system is ultrasound and laboratory tests.

The doctor may order tests for several hormones to analyze their levels and make an appropriate diagnosis.

The Treatment of Thyroid Diseases
The doctor determines the tactics for treating diseases of the endocrine system based on the diagnosis and severity of the disease. Treatment can be conservative or surgical.

If the cause of the pathology lies in the lack of iodine, then the endocrinologist may prescribe iodine therapy based on the results of a lab study. Hormone therapy may be prescribed to normalize hormone levels. Unfortunately, sometimes, it is impossible to do without surgery. For example, surgery is necessary if you need to remove nodes, one lobe of the thyroid gland, or the entire organ.

How to Prevent Thyroid Diseases?
Any disease is easier to prevent than to treat, and thyroid pathology is no exception. To minimize the risks, you should remember some rules.

Watch your diet – it should be varied and contain iodine. It is found in seaweed and seafood, walnuts, and kiwi. Eat iodized salt when adding it to cold dishes, as the iodine will be destroyed during the cooking process.

Avoid excessive sun exposure. Do not take antibiotics unless necessary. Drink water. Try to avoid alcohol and smoking, and be physically active. In addition, do not neglect preventive examinations, which help to notice the pathology in time and correct it.

These simple but essential rules will help you stay healthy and avoid lengthy and expensive treatments.
