The countdown to this year's Asia Cup begins as it's just a fortnight away! The 16th edition of Asia Cup 2023 will be jointly hosted by neighbouring counties, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with the inaugural match being played on August 30, 2023!
This upcoming continental championship will have six Asian teams facing each other; India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal, and will be played in a 50-over (ODI) format.

As per the announcement by ACC (Asian Cricket Council), 9 matches will be played in Sri Lanka while the remaining 4 matches will be played in Pakistan. This announcement comes in after BCCI expressed concern for the Men in Blue travelling to Pakistan over security reasons. While the trophy-lifting match will be held on September 17, 2023, we are more excited about the first IND VS PAK clash that’ll happen on September 2!

Talking about this year's format, the well-deserving teams will be split into two groups- Group A and B. Group A consists of India, Pakistan, and Nepal while Group B includes Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. The top two teams from each group will play the ...

The Asia Cup 2023 is all set to commence two weeks from now, so we are looking back at some incredible knocks by Indian cricketers that make us feel proud to support Men In Blue! Have a look.

2012: Virat Kohli (IND VS PAK)

Team India's former captain, Virat Kohli is regarded as one of the best batsmen in cricketing history. During a match against our arch-rivals Pakistan, King Kohli recorded an impressive 183 runs in 148 balls. He hit 22 boundaries and one massive six, which contributed to his huge score.

Pakistan managed to register 329 runs in 50 overs which India surpassed comfortably after Kohli's explosive innings! Kohli’s 183 runs were scripted as the highest individual score in the series and remains his top innings in the ODI format.

Till now, Kohli has played a total of 19 Asia Cup matches, both ODI and T20I formats, and has accumulated 1042 runs in total- the highest by any other Indian player to date. He is behind Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara as he's the third high-time run scorer and has scored a total of 613 runs in the ODI format and in the T20I format, he has amassed 429 runs!

2012: Sachin Tendulkar (IND VS BAN)

India's Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar is one of the best cricketers of our generation. Throughout his career, he has achieved multiple milestones, making him the God of cricket.
During a match against Bangladesh in the 2012 edition of the Asia Cup, he added another milestone in this acclaimed cricketing career by scoring his 100th century. In fact, he became the first batter to achieve this feat in international cricket after scoring 114 runs off 147 balls.
Even though India lost the match (Bangladesh surpassed the score in 49.2 overs), it is still regarded as one of the finest knocks by an Indian player in the Asia Cup tournament. The veteran appeared in 23 Asia Cup tournaments in the ODI format and amassed 971 runs in 21 innings!

2008: Virendra Sehwag (IND VS PAK)

Virendra Sehwag is deemed one of the most destructive openers the cricketing world has witnessed! During a super intense match against Pakistan for Asia Cup 2008, Viru smashed 119 runs in 95 balls! He hit 5 sixes, and 12 boundaries, adding to India's grand total of 301 runs in 42.1 overs. India won the match by 6 wickets against Pakistan's final score of 299 runs.

He represented Team India in the Asia Cup from 2004 to 2010 and played a total of 13 innings. He has amassed 509 runs- making him among the top ten run Indian cricketers with the highest number of runs in Asia Cup history.


2018: Shikhar Dhawan (IND VS Hong Kong)

Shikhar Dhawan is one of the most promising Indian cricketers who currently is playing for Delhi in first-class cricket and also captains Kings Punjab XI in Indian Premier League.
During the Asia Cup 2018, he registered 127 runs off 120 balls in a match against Hong Kong. Continuing his appetite to keep up the score, he hit another century in a match against Pakistan when he scored 114 runs in 100 balls. This wondrous feat marked his 15th ODI hundred and also his second century in the Asia Cup 2018! After Virat Kohli, he became the second Indian cricketer to add 15 ODI centuries to his name!
His incredible innings made him the Player of the Series and also the player with the most runs!

2018: Rohit Sharma (IND VS PAK)

India's captain, Rohit Sharma is revered as one of the greatest opening batters of all time. Since 2008, he has made appearances in seven Asia Cup tournaments, making him the first Indian cricketer to do so!
During the 2018 Asia Cup tournament, he opened the innings and managed to score 111 flawless runs, tallying India's runs to 238 in just 39.3 overs. This marked Rohit's 19th century in the ODI format. He hit 7 boundaries and 4 sixes, making it one of his finest knocks yet!
Along with Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 114 runs off 100 balls, both Rohit and Shikhar played to win, with a partnership of 210 runs, and contributed to India's win against Pakistan by 9 wickets.
