Dog teeth cleaning is not unusual, as most owners understand the importance thereof and the need for it.

THE IMPORTANCE OF DOG TEETH CLEANING

Dog teeth cleaning is as essential as making sure your dog is fed, looked after and loved. Dog teeth cleaning Greeley, whether you are in Greeley, Colorado or any part of the U.S. or elsewhere, is as important as cleaning your own. People that do not pay attention to their oral health run the risk of having to deal with rotting teeth, of losing their teeth, infection and other negative situations such as, say, gum disease.

The same applies to your dog and his/her dental health. It can also lead to further complications such as your animal not being able to chew and, therefore eat, which will cause hunger, weight loss and other health problems. Think of bad breath too. In animals (much as in humans) bad breath could be one of the first signs of disease and/or infection in the teeth and gums. So, when your dog’s breath constantly smells bad and not only because it ate a huge chunk of meat the previous night, consider having his/her teeth cleaned. And do not be fooled. ...
... Many dogs hide their discomfort until a serious problem has had time to develop.

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP KEEP MY DOG’S TEETH CLEAN?

There are a number of ways in which owners can do a great deal to make sure their dog’s teeth are looked after:

• Brushing - For example, many dogs react positively to having their teeth brushed with a special brush and paste that one buys from a vet or pet store for this purpose. Do not use human toothpaste, only paste especially formulated for pets. If you start when your dog is very small, chances are that they will take to it and accept it as part of their normal routine. These pastes come in great flavors that your dog may like, for example meat or chicken. You can also use a finger brush if your pet will allow your hand in their mouth. At the very least, use a dental wipe and try and clean the teeth.

• Buy your dog some chew toys. When they chew on such toys – also bones for bigger breeds - it stimulates cleaning as it helps to scrape plaque off the teeth, and it also helps to form saliva with its typical alkaline nature which can help prevent cavities and ultimately loss of teeth.

• Some owners use dental sprays. Instead of brushing, you may try a dental spray that helps to kill bacteria and plaque and tartar buildup. Also, a spray makes their breath smell fresher. Some owners simply spray the pets chew toys, or other toys they often play with to ensure they lick it up.

• Diet. For your pet’s general health, which includes their oral health, it is advised to feed it a proper diet, one that your vet suggests, food that the vet may even be able to sell you. Proper diets are scientifically proven to be those designed for your pet’s health, and promoted by veterinarians all over the country. It is good to be aware, too, of the ongoing efforts of the Veterinary Oral Health Council’s efforts to make sure pet owners take seriously the foods they recommend for pets’ good dental health.

PREVENTIVE

As important as your relationship with the vet is to ensure your dog or other pet is always ensured of good medical treatment, you should never underestimate the importance of your animal’s dental health, and the part your vet can play in this regard. Therefore, do take your dog to the vet every year or 18 months for a proper teeth cleaning, which is a procedure done under anesthesia and that lasts around 30 to 45 minutes, if no serious issues require further action. The dental cleaning ensures that plaque and tartar are removed and any potential dental problems picked up early.
