Makeup artists are becoming fans of pure mineral cosmetics for several reasons. Not only are they popular in the growing natural beauty market, they can prevent sensitive skin's reaction to makeup, minimize the appearance of imperfections in the skin, feel more breathable than heavy foundations and just as important, give the skin a natural glow in natural color.

Allergic reactions affect skin that's sensitive to the chemicals in traditional foundations. Oils, waxes, perfumes, artificial preservatives and other ingredients can cause anything from simple redness to painful breakouts requiring medical attention. Cosmetics made from minerals are by definition hypoallergenic so sensitive users not only avoid reactions but because of the powder's silky texture, some people find the minerals soothing to their skin. Mineral powder also provides cleaner makeup since it contains no moisture to harbor bacteria like makeups that contain water can.

Liquid and cream foundations are heavier than mineral ones. Their thick texture requires a lot of blending and they can cake on near the hair and brow lines. They can also emphasize ...
... lines and wrinkles and sometimes leave behind an orange residue on the skin once absorbed. Traditional foundations also sweat and rub off easily while mineral makeup almost melts into the skin avoiding emphasis on lines and retains its even color as it fades.

Since mineral foundations, shadows and other products have natural color, they give the skin a more natural appearance and are more easily blended for a custom color. This is another shortcoming of traditional makeup as mixing can be messy and difficult to gauge. Mineral makeup is sheer but can be built up for more coverage of discoloration or other blemish without causing the color to looked caked on or unnatural. That isn't possible with liquids or creams either.

It has taken longer for mineral makeup to catch on with the professionals in the entertainment and beauty industries due to the worries that natural products are somehow less effective. Now that minerals have proven themselves but their time has come and more actresses and models are looking red carpet and hi-def ready thanks to their makeup pros new, natural favorites.
