Car's need to be able to gather speed fast. But they need to be able to stop even faster. And though it may seem it is easier to stop a car than to make it accelerate, it is an enormous task. A car is likely a charging rhinoceros when it is moving at a high speed and you need to be able to control it better than a well trained horse. So how can that be possible?

Well you now will begin to appreciate what the quiet automobile engineers car able to accomplish
They are able to make a car slow down quickly without causing your heart to flutter. And to do this they employ components that convert the huge amount of kinetic energy to heat energy and they are also able to dissipate the heat energy fast enough so that the components that generate friction do not over heat and break down.

The two components that rub against one another to generate friction are the brake pads and the brake rotors. In fact if you will drive a car with high quality brake pads and brake rotors you will feel that the car has extremely refined controls. We need to make subtle changes in the speed of the car when we drive in traffic and quality ...
... brake pads and brake rotors help you to do that easily with a slight pressure of your foot on the brake pedal.

The brake rotor is the more complex product of the two because it needs to also dissipate the heat and the gases. For this it has small holes. Of course the holes reduce the area available to generate friction therefore some performance cars have slotted rotors which do not have holes but rather have slots and therefore have more area available for generating friction. But these rotors are meant for performance cars and the standard rotors are more preferable for regular cars. The slotted and normal rotors need to be of high quality otherwise they can crack and lead to problems. You can easily read more about the types of rotors by going online.
