Deer hunting leases in Alabama and other southeastern states have always been sought-after and continue to offer hunters their annual trip away from the office. For some it is merely a wonderful pastime, and for others a passion that they often look forward to for many months.

Acquiring a good hunting lease takes some homework upfront. Of course hunters will almost always find a lease, but you want to be sure you sign for a lease with reasonable expectations of success since not every lease is necessarily one that offers good quality buck for the hunt. Hunters are happy to pay money for a great hunting trip, but only when they know the lease they take comes with a strong chance of success.

Landowners who want to offer hunters good hunting land and leases in popular hunting regions such as the South and Southeast, understand that they need to put all systems in place to be sure they are in a position to offer a sought-after lease that guarantees good access to hunting land and deer.

Because they are migratory animals, deer will not necessarily stay where they do not have enough water and access to food, ...
... or safe areas for their young. This is one of the first issues the landowner that wants to offer superior leases has to consider, in other words he needs to take a good look at the habitat where these animals roam. If the habitat is conducive to offering the animals what they need, they may not wander and leave. The same applies to how, and when, and what, you cull. Senseless killing of herds to make money in the short term will only come to haunt the landowner later when they have sub-standard herds and struggle to catch up with neighboring landowners and the leases they offer hunters.

Good habitat and good deer herds go hand in hand, which is why landowners accept that their first responsibility is to make sure that habitat management and deer management plans are in place in order to create the best environment for deer – and other animals – to thrive. When there is equilibrium between animals and their habitat, there is every chance that you will raise good herds and offer great deer hunting leases to the public.

To create this scenario requires knowledge, skill and expertise, which not every landowner has, or has the time to develop, as they may be busy elsewhere on the land. This is why wildlife conservationist consultants and managers are seen as the solution. These services can take over the total complement of your habitat and deer population management requirements so that you, the owner, can relax in the knowledge that a professional service will make sure you offer good leases to hunters who are happy to pay for them, and to return in the future.

The good ones such as, say, Alabama’s Westervelt Wildlife, do good work for those landowners that employ their services and benefit from their knowledge and input. These services employ professionals that work in the field every day and who understand what the issues are you deal with as a landowner wanting to offer the public leases. They employ wildlife biologists, they employ administrative staff who manage leases and make sure you, the owner, receive the fees you charge as per your lease.

They manage hunting clubs looking for hunting leases, and they encourage members of clubs to get involved in the running of such clubs, also to get involved in wildlife conservation efforts that stand the landowner in good stead, as they, the keen hunter with an interest in their lease, may well want to come back the next hunting season.

In the end the management consultancy does most of the hard work to ensure that the land and deer that they manage for an owner, become an attractive option for the visiting hunter. Alabama deer hunting leases in the hands of a good manager ensure success for the hunter, and satisfaction with their service for the landowner.
