Electric vehicles, or EVs, have been around for decades. But until recently, they were too expensive and impractical for most people to own. The technology is improving, though, and there are now thousands of electric vehicles on the road. To charge up your EV at home, you need a charging cable that matches the type of plug on your vehicle—plus an electric outlet that can accommodate it all! Here's what you need to know about charging cables and how many types there are out there:

CHAdeMO stands for "CHArge de MOve" (French for "Charge de Move"). It's another international standard created by automakers such as Nissan, Toyota and Honda along with other companies like Mitsubishi Motors Corporation; Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.; Aioi Nissho Co., Ltd.; Hitachi Automotive Systems Co., Ltd.; KDDI Corporation; Mitsubishi Electric Corporation; Panasonic Corporation; Sharp Corporation; Sony Corporation and Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Incorporated(TEPCO). The goal was similar: establish protocol so everyone could use existing infrastructure without having to worry about compatibility issues across brands or regions when building out EV charging networks or adding stations onto existing ones that didn't have them before!

J1772
J1772 is an electric vehicle charging standard. It's the most prevalent type of EV charging cable, and it's used in most North American markets. J1772 uses two different types of connectors: one that connects to your car's charging port, and another that connects to an electric outlet. The latter can be found on any electrical outlet or charger with a J1772 connector built in--you simply plug it into your car's charging port (or use a special adapter) and start recharging!
J1772 differs from other types of EV charging cables because it supports high power outputs up to 80 amps at 400 volts DC; this means you can quickly recharge an electric vehicle battery if you have access to enough power through an AC source like solar panels or grid electricity from utilities like PG&E.

CHAdeMO
CHAdeMO is a fast charging standard used in Japan and some other Asian countries. It is the fastest charging standard, with a maximum output of 500 kW. The name CHAdeMO comes from "charge de Move", which means "charge for moving" in French.
CHAdeMO was developed by TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power Company), Nissan, Mitsubishi and Fuji Heavy Industries in 2010 to replace SAE's J1772 as an international standard for electric vehicle charging equipment.[1] It was first demonstrated at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2009 before being announced as an industry alliance on May 1st 2010.

CCS
CCS: The name of the international standard for DC fast charging, CCS is used by BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Ford and Volkswagen. Look more information at CCS2 vehicle charging socket
CHAdeMO: This Japanese standard has been adopted by Nissan and Mitsubishi as well as other Japanese automakers.
Tesla Supercharger (DC): Tesla's proprietary charging system that allows you to charge your Model S or X at up to 120kW (or 200kW in some regions).
There are many different types of EV charging cables. The most common in the United States is called J1772, while CHAdeMO and CCS are used overseas.
