A great first date is really the most powerful tool in a new relationship. If a couple has a good first date, then there is a good chance that there will be a second date, and perhaps many more after that. This is the only way that a relationship can continue to grow. Follow these tips to increase your odds of having a great first date.

1. Plan Ahead

Make sure that you have every step of your first date planned out. Know exactly where you will be going to dinner, where you will be getting coffee, or whatever activities you would like to do. Most women like to see a man who is decisive and in control of a situation. You never want to be caught in an awkward moment where you have to sit around and think about what the two of you will do next. That's a total turn-off for many girls.

2. Guys Should Still Pay

It may seem a little cliché, old fashioned or even unfair, but to have a great first date most women still expect a gentleman to pay for everything. However, some women will tell their date that they are not comfortable with this idea, and insist on splitting the tab. In this situation, ...
... it is OK to bend the rules a little and let her contribute if she wants to do so. But for most dates, if you are a guy, you should just expect to foot the bill, so be prepared with enough cash (or your credit card) to do what you want to do on your date.

3. Do Something Memorable

Perhaps the most boring first date activity in the world is to go out to dinner and then see a movie afterwards. There is nothing memorable about this activity. Sitting in a quiet movie theater for 2 hours almost ensures that the two of you will not get to know each other. A great first date activity will be something that gets you talking and allows the two of you to get to know each other while having a good time.

4. Be Yourself

Here is another rule that people ignore much too often. To really have a great first date you need to let the other person know exactly who you are without being pretentious or revealing too much. Be yourself, try to act normally, and don't put be phony or put on airs. If you want to go beyond a first date, you will need to be real and let your personality shine a bit.
