This leaves them vulnerable and financially insecure in their old age. In 2019-20, over 9.3 million individuals aged 61 and older availed work benefits under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), highlighting the challenges faced by older workers.

Approximately 20 million elderly individuals in India are homeless, without a place to call their own.
