Harley Street in London has been renowned as an increasingly popular and sought-after medical destination since the early 19th century. It has always been a popular and prestigious address for doctors, hospitals, private practices and medical organisations, and therefore these institutions have mushroomed in the Harley Street area.

The number of doctors grew from 20 in 1860 to an excess of 3 000 employees in service of medical institutions, including state-of-the-art clinics, medical and paramedical practices, world-class hospitals, fertility clinics, diagnostic services, and many other leading industry-related facilities. With ultramodern clinics and facilities, and its reputation as an exceptional medical cosmetic hub, this London area has become the most famous medical destination in the world, often playing host to celebrities.

Human eyes are the most central and defining feature of the human face, performing a crucial role in facial expression and communication. Interest in the medical field of peri-ocular rejuvenation has been popularised over the last few decades.

Technological developments and ...
... continuous scientific research have led to imaginative insights into periorbital anatomy and the influence of ageing on facial tissue. Blepharoplasty has been reimagined with oculoplastic surgeons focusing on aesthetic reconstruction and restoration of changes.

Blepharo is the Greek for the eyelid. Blepharoplasty refers to the procedure where the skin around the eye area is surgically removed to rectify excessive puffiness and droopy eyelids. This functional procedure is beneficial for both medical and cosmetic purposes and will be addressed by the surgeon during pre-operative consultations.

Hooding, puffiness or excess skin around the eyes causes premature ageing in a patient’s face while affecting vision as well. Reconstructive eyelid surgery for lower lids is performed by oculoplastic surgeons for several reasons, including the correction of drooping skin and tissue under the skin, and the removal of excess skin, muscle and fat from the eye area.
Sagging eyelids are not aesthetically pleasing and can project a tired-looking appearance. After a Blepharoplasty procedure, patients have been elated with the results and with the overall condition of their mental well-being, feeling and looking rested and younger.

Blepharoplasty is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgical procedures performed to improve facial aesthetics and functionality, correcting the contours of the upper and lower eyelid space. Lower eyelid surgery or lower Blepharoplasty is specifically focused on the area between the eyelashes and the cheek.

Lower Blepharoplasty is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgical procedures in Harley Street, to cosmetically improve facial aesthetics and functionality, correcting the contours of the upper and lower eyelid space. Lower eyelid surgery or lower Blepharoplasty is specifically focused on the area between the eyelashes and the cheek.

The procedure is performed while the patient is put under general anaesthetic. After the procedure and as post-op treatment, an antibiotic ointment will be applied. Although all surgeries have an element of risk, experienced oculoplastic surgeons that perform Blepharoplasty have declared this a minimum-risk procedure. This safe, simple and predictable procedure is performed regularly by oculoplastic surgeons in London.

In the procedure where lower Blepharoplasty is performed, oculoplastic surgeons make an incision on the inside of the lower eyelid or slightly below the lashes. Excess fat is either removed from this area or the fat is repositioned. Muscle and tendon support can be successfully inserted should it be considered to be necessary. This can be done right before the incision is stitched up.

The entire procedure is relatively pain-free and can take between 45 minutes and two and a half hours to complete, causing minimal or slight side effects, which can be alleviated by the use of paracetamol if deemed necessary.
