DLF Camellias is a luxurious residential development in India's National Capital Region, located in the heart of Gurugram's DLF Phase 5 Golf Links. This project is DLF's latest foray into high-end living, following their earlier successes with the Aralias and Magnolias properties. The development boasts LEED Platinum certification from the US Green Building Council, making it the first residential development in India to achieve this feat. Hafeez Contractor, a renowned Mumbai-based architect, was the chief designer enlisted to bring DLF's vision to life. The development is named after the Camellia, an exquisite flowering plant, and offers stunning views of the nearby DLF Golf & Country Club and Aravalli forests. Spread over a vast area with lush vegetation, DLF Camellias sets a new standard for urban living by providing a lavish, peaceful oasis in the midst of India's bustling 'millennium city.

... consisting of nine towers with 429 residences, each with 4 and 5-BHK units occupying an entire floor. The towers' design, described as "bungalows stacked on top of one another," is unique and incorporates sophisticated technology, sustainable practices, facilities, amenities, and services. The towers' façade designs feature intricate lattice patterns in glass-reinforced concrete (GRC), accentuated by subtle lighting and camellia-shaped water features. The lobby is grand, with crystal pendant chandeliers suspended from lofty ceilings, Pama veneer-covered walls, and white marble floors with grey marble borders sourced from Greece.

The units at Camellias range from 7,350 sq ft to 16,290 sq ft and offer lavish interiors, featuring stone, wood, and metal textures sourced globally. The project includes 12 penthouses of 13,000 sq ft and two penthouses of 16,000 sq ft, amongst the largest in India. The design of the residences prioritises natural light, ventilation, and segregation of spaces, providing column-free areas and high ceilings. The balconies offer sweeping views of the nearby golf course.

The Camellias project prioritises sustainability and the well-being of its residents with extensive lawns, water features, and over 1200 trees planted during construction. The landscape design, led by Gerdo Aquino, features 22,000 sqm of shrubs and 16,000 sqm of grass, as well as over 1000 planters with flowering plants. The outdoor spaces create an oasis-like environment in the midst of the surrounding greenery, which serves as a testament to DLF's commitment to creating a sustainable and ecological living experience.

The Camellias Club is a standout feature of the luxury development, with a design team comprising of six renowned professionals who sought to combine sustainable design with exceptional hospitality and amenities. Shawn Sullivan of Rockwell Group led the team, along with Arnold Chan of Isometrix Lighting + Design for lighting design, Jay Wright of The Wright Fit for fitness center design, Ingo Schweder of GOCO Hospitality for spa design, and Gerdo Aquino of SWA Group for landscaping. The team worked closely with architect Hafeez Contractor to create a solution that exceeded even the most luxurious resorts or hospitality ventures worldwide. The Camellias Club is described as a "world in itself" that sets its wealthy residents apart from the urban landscape outside.

The Camellias Club spans over 160,000 sq ft and is divided into seven energy zones, each containing amenities corresponding to their respective themes. Aakash Ohri, Group Executive Director and Chief Business Officer at DLF Home Developers Ltd., states that the clubhouse's amenities and services surpass most such clubs globally, including fine dining, sports, fitness, relaxation, and entertainment, making it an extension of residents' homes and designed for families of all ages.

The Camellias Club is separated from the residential towers by a 1.3-acre Water Garden that features fan-shaped reflecting pools with fibre optic points that create a starry effect. Meandering pathways cross the blue-glazed tiles of the Water Garden, leading to the clubhouse. According to Gerdo Aquino, the Water Garden is the heart of the open space design, and the SWA Group designed the walkways to create an effect of walking along water at different elevations.

The clubhouse boasts seven roofs adorned with plants and shrubs, arranged in the shape of a camellia flower, complete with petal-shaped skylights. Upon entering the marble-clad foyer, visitors are greeted by a striking bronze-finished spiral staircase, which has been engineered to flow freely throughout its vertical run without the need for additional supports. The serpentine structure features grey marble treads with brass accent strips, illuminated by LED lights embedded in the handrails. The lower end of the staircase extends into a shallow water feature lined with Moroccan black stone, while a 3D installation of a camellia adorns the ceiling above the upper end.

The 30,000 sq ft spa area at the Camellias Club has treatment rooms that open up into sunken private gardens, while the 12,000 sq ft gym area is designed with a luxury fitness platform inspired by raw concrete, white-washed brick, and blackened steel typical of similar facilities in New York. The club also includes a business centre, a 65-seater movie theatre, sports and cigar bars, a karaoke space, wine bars, a bakery, and a bowling alley. The eastern end of the clubhouse has a private dining room with a hand-painted jungle mural and a view of the Water Garden. The 400-capacity ballroom and banquet hall has a refined ambience with white carved stone, gold-washed wood panels, and champagne-coloured leafing.

Hafeez Contractor, the architect who worked on the Camellias project, expressed his satisfaction with the results in an online discussion, stating that it surpasses all other residential buildings he has worked on in India. He also praised DLF, the private developer behind the project, for contributing to the city through this intervention. With its thriving greenery, bespoke design, and opulent marble features, the Camellias sets a new standard for gated communities in India, providing international luxury standards and enhancing levels of biodiversity within the chaotic urban environment.
