Preparation Strategy And Study Plan For Cat Repeaters
There are numerous reasons for retaking the CAT exam with the help of best teachers for CAT preparation. Many people take the exam because they did not receive the desired CAT score, a few people performed well but did not receive calls from the desired b-school, and some received calls but were unable to clear the respective institutes' GD/PI.
Here is a guide for anyone who wants to leave no stone unturned in their CAT preparation journey again:
1. Break down what went wrong last year
Take a seat and carefully examine where you fell short last year. Consider the following questions.
Was it a sectional imbalance that prevented me from getting the desired cutoff?
Did I understand the concept?
Was I successful in managing time and achieving the desired speed during the test?
Did I not revise enough?
Did my nervousness affect my speed or accuracy during the exam?
2. Do not use percentiles to judge and evaluate your ability in a section
Sectional percentiles are commonly used to assess our command of a section. While a consistent 98 percentile scorer can be confident ...
... in their grasp of the section, the 85-95 percentile range is tricky and depends a lot on the difficulty of questions in a specific section.
3. Analyze how much effort you put in for preparation of each section
For instance, how many times have you solved your quant material, and how many full-length tests have you taken?
4. Make a list of the areas you want to improve or master
Based on the findings of the preceding analysis, Make this list as detailed as possible, and then go over your mock tests and study materials.
5. Whether to opt for classroom learning or not
We have discussed the advantages of both classroom and online learning. Based on these, you can decide whether to pursue classroom or online coaching.
Classroom coaching:
* An environment with like-minded individuals who have the same goals
* Doubts can be solved then and there
* Better for nonworking candidates
Online coaching:
Learning flexibility in terms of timing and location.
If you've already taken a full-time classroom course and have the notes and material, online coaching can be a great way to brush up on the material before moving on to practise tests and full-length mock tests.
These and also the best online teachers for CAT preparation are typically much less expensive than classroom instruction.
6. Remember to learn topics for the interviews as well
When reviewing the topics this time, remember to learn them not only for the exam but also for the interviews.
7. You can learn a lot from fellow aspirants
You can form a group with a few other aspirants to discuss all of the important concepts and questions in person. Aside from that, there are numerous Facebook and WhatsApp groups where you can post your questions and help others. This is especially useful for repeaters because they are already familiar with all of the concepts.
Now we'll go over the topics that will be covered in each section.
1. Quantitative Ability
People usually become picky about which areas they like and dislike in this section. This narrows the pool of potential questions, allowing you to achieve a high percentile. Begin by strengthening your concepts in your weakest areas while also practising your strong areas. Make sure you review what you learned the day before.
2. Verbal Ability
This is a difficult section for many people. While preparing, do not concentrate on clearing the cut off. Concentrate on expanding your skill set.
Create a reading habit in the case of RCs. Read and analyse as many RCs as you can to come up with a strategy that works for you. For example, some people read the questions first and then read the passage while keeping the questions in mind, while others quickly read the passage, then read the questions, and then begin reading the passage thoroughly, and still others simply read the passage first and then read and answer the questions. Only by devoting sufficient time to this task will you be able to determine what works best for you. Once you get the hang of it, RC is a very scoring part of Verbal ability.
Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis is usually sufficient for vocabulary. If you find yourself forgetting things, reread the book several times. Even if you can't figure out the exact meaning, you'll be able to get a sense of it from the context and remember it.
3. Data Interpretation (DI) – Logical Reasoning (LR)
This section necessitates a great deal of practise and confidence. In recent years (CAT 2022), this has been the most difficult section, causing students to lose confidence in the upcoming CATs. The important thing here is to make sure you practise the previous year's sets. You can repeat them as many times as necessary because knowing how to crack a specific type of question comes in handy when there is only a minor variation in the concept tested. Make sure you practise at least one set per day from now until D-day.
