The ISO 22716 standard combines the benefits of a business management tool that integrates the operation of the company and cosmetics quality with the ability to satisfy growing global legal and customer requirements for safe cosmetic products. This globally recognized Standard, in particular, addresses and responds to international laws for cosmetic Good Manufacturing Practices. It has garnered universal recognition through the International Cooperation ...
... on Cosmetic Regulation (ICCR) regions of the European Union, the United States, Canada, and Japan, leading to adaptations of their local standards and advice since it so efficiently links in with their legislation. ISO 22716 requires enterprises to specify their processes and demonstrate consistent control over recognized hazards, as well as update and improve systems and adapt to process changes. Regardless of the complexity or size of the organization, it offers substantial benefits. It equalizes the playing pitch for clients and vendors worldwide and along the whole supply chain.

Cosmetic Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) refer to a collection of detailed rules that assist companies that make cosmetics in producing high-quality, safe products continuously. In this context, the term "cosmetic" refers to products or materials used to change, enhance, clean up, or groom one's face or body. In addition to soap, lip balms, shower gels, creams, lotions, body powders, and hair products, they can also include cosmetics and scents. In addition to cosmetics, other consumer goods like food, medicines, and supplements also have good manufacturing practices.

GMPs, as the name suggests, are focused on the production or manufacturing procedures that affect the product's quality, consistency, and safety. Every cosmetic company must make sure that the goods they produce and eventually sell are reliable, efficient, and of the best quality. This requirement is connected to several laws that control the selling of cosmetics. For instance, the sale of "adulterated" or "misbranded" cosmetic items is prohibited in the US under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Section 301), which is enforced by the FDA. According to Sections 16 and 18 of the Food and Drugs Act, cosmetics sold in Canada must be manufactured and stored in sanitary conditions.

Safety: The term "safety" refers to the avoidance of unintended product contamination, deterioration, or misuse that could result in allergic reactions and other health consequences. It can entail actions like obtaining raw materials from a dependable vendor, making sure that facilities are maintained properly, instructing staff members about frequent hand washing, and proofreading labels before printing.

Consistency: To produce a consistent result every time, manufacturing processes and factors must be able to be controlled. A few examples of factors that can affect product quality are the formulation chosen, the kinds of raw materials chosen, the sanitation procedures followed, and the technical proficiency of the cosmetic chemist. Each of these has the potential to cause quality changes from batch to batch if not regulated. For consistency and product quality replication, precise and detailed ISO 22716 documents as well as records must be created and followed through.

Quality: According to its characteristics and features, a product's quality is determined by its capacity to satisfy particular requirements. Colour, smell, consistency, and pH are a few examples of objective requirements that are frequently used to operationalize and define the concept of "quality." Other areas covered by it include purity and safety. GMP enables businesses to produce goods with high-quality standards that are consistent from batch to batch.
