Philadelphia Experiment : Was It Real?
The well-known theory of the Philadelphia Experiment is widely considered a hoax. Still, conspiracy theorists have latched onto this tale for decades. It began in the 1940s with a letter from a person named Carlos Allende. Allende claimed he was aboard the U.S. Navy ship the USS Furuseth when he saw the USS Eldridge disappear and reappear right before his eyes-he called this the Philadelphia Experiment. He claimed that this was evidence that Albert Einstein had solved the unified field theory and that the U.S. government was secretly using this knowledge to experiment with teleportation and invisibility. What is interesting is that the tale of the Philadelphia Experiment has made it into the annals of American legend. So, what’s the real story?
The story of the Philadelphia Experiment begins in October of 1943 in Norfolk, Virginia, though the story did not turn up until more than ten years later. Purportedly, some men aboard the SS Andrew Furuseth saw a ship spontaneously appear in the water in Norfolk on October 28. The story goes that it came from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The destroyer had first disappeared and ...
... then it instantaneously teleported to Norfolk. The disappearance and the teleportation were apparently two different functions of the experiment. In other words, the disappearance was not the result of the teleportation, but rather came before it.
Once the USS Eldridge reached Norfolk, it was clear something went wrong. Some of the men had disappeared during the trip. Others had gone mad. Some kept becoming invisible and then regaining their forms. Others still had become fused — yes, fused — with the ship in various ways. Perhaps that is why no U.S. ships currently have invisibility cloaks and teleportation devices. It could also be that the story is completely false. According to Allende, Einstein had developed the Unified Field Theory, but had suppressed it, since mankind was not ready for it, a confession that the scientist shared with the mathematician, philosopher and his dear friend Bertrand Russell. When the actual test was put into motion, a number of unexpected and bizarre side effects occurred. As the electromagnetic field increased in strength, it began to extend as far as 100 yards out from the ship in all directions, forming a large sphere. Within this field, the ship became fuzzy and indistinct, and a greenish haze formed around the vessel, obscuring it from view. Eventually, the only visible object was the outline of the hull of the Eldridge where it entered the water. Then, to the amazement of onlookers, the entire ship vanished from view. It was at this point (the vanishing of the Eldridge) that the true power of the electromagnetic field that had been created was revealed. The Eldridge had not only vanished from the view of observers in Philadelphia, it had vanished from Philadelphia all together! The ship had been instantly transported several hundred miles — from Philadelphia to Norfolk, Virginia. After a few minutes, the ship once again vanished, to return to Philadelphia.
To the Navy, the test had succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. Not only had they rendered a ship invisible to radar, they had made it optically invisible as well, not to mention causing the vessel to teleport hundreds of miles in a matter of minutes. For the crew, however, the trip had been a nightmare.
The test had managed to render the entire ship ‘out of phase’ with the surrounding universe, which is why it was able to travel from Philadelphia to Norfolk instantly. This phasing effect had drastic effects on the crew members. During the experiment, crew members found they could walk through solid objects, and when the field was shut off, men were found embedded in the bulkheads, decks and railings of the ship. The results were gruesome enough that some men went mad. Afterwards, several crew members simply vanished. A few disappeared into thin air; one, eating dinner with his family, rose, walked through a wall and was never seen again. Some men entered into what was called the ‘Freeze’. This is where a man faded from view; unable to move, speak or otherwise affect his surroundings. Initially, the Freeze effect lasted only a few minutes to a few hours. Interestingly enough, invisible crewmen were still visible to other sailors who had survived the original experiment. After a while, the Freeze effect lasted for days or months, and became known as the ‘Deep Freeze’ (other terms include ‘Caught in the Flow’, ‘Caught in the Push’, ‘Get Stuck’, ‘Go Blank’, ‘Hell Incorporated’ or ‘Stuck in Molasses’). The Deep Freeze could drive a man insane in very short order, and was only able to be counteracted if other crewmen performed a ‘Laying on of Hands’ technique to give the victim strength and allow him to recover from his affliction. Unfortunately, two men burst into flames while Laying on of Hands, burning for 18 days despite all attempts to quench the fire. Seeing the horrible after effects of the experiment, the Navy discontinued all further research into radar and optical invisibility. The surviving crewmen were discharged as mentally unfit for duty and many were placed in insane asylums. However, science was not quite done conducting research on electromagnetic fields or radar and its affects on the human mind. Project Rainbow may have been disbanded, but the Phoenix Project was just getting started. When Morris tried to contact Mister Carlos the reply arrived a couple of months later by correspondent identifying himself as “Carl M. Allen”. Because of safety measures Morris terminated communication with this new “Carl” guy. That was how the truth about “The Philadelphia Experiment” came out from the “closet”, but what really happened on that ship. The thing I am going to describe is beyond the wildest imagination. It is crazy, I mean “Fringe” meeting “The Outer Limits” crazy. Everything was ready and normal and then the scientists pushed the button starting the generators and transferring electric energy through the Tesla Coils that run through the ship. As the electromagnetic field increased in strength, it began to extend as far as 100 yards out from the ship in all directions, forming a large sphere and making the ship fuzzy. Greenish fog started to surround the ship. No screams were heard by the crew on the ship. Suddenly the ship vanished, not just from the view, but from Philadelphia all together. To make things even stranger, the ship appeared several hundred miles at Norfolk, Virginia, staying there for couple of minutes and then reappearing in Philadelphia again. The ship was “un-synced” from This Universe which is why it was able to travel from Philly to Virginia and back instantly but that was not the horror “Carlos” described. Some members of the crew were disoriented; others were “basket cases”.
Strangely a couple of the members were missing — “Just like They Have Been Erased From Time Itself”. However, the most disturbing view was seeing some of the crew members embedded in the bulkheads, decks and railings of the ship. They were alive and literally a part of the ship. A lot of them were killed instantly, some were taken for experimenting, and others were taken and locked into asylums. Some survivors, who were alive and as fine as you can be after such trauma, reported blacking out from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours. Rumors have been heard that some men entered into what was called the “Freeze”. This is where men faded from view, unable to move, speak or otherwise affect their surroundings. Interestingly enough, invisible crewmen were still visible to other sailors who had survived the original experiment. After a while, the Freeze effect lasted for days or months, and became known as the “Deep Freeze” driving crewmen crazy. The only way men were able to recover from the “Deep Freeze” was by other crewmen performing a “Laying on of Hands” technique. Unfortunately, two men burst into flames while Laying on of Hands, burning for 18 days despite all attempts to quench the fire. I know, this sounds like somebody had a little too much free time and a wild imagination but this is strange even for the wildest imagination and exactly that fact proves that this might be true. Even if all of this is 90% false and just a fantasy story, that 10% is still frightening. And think about this, if 50 years ago people were experimenting with Time Travel, Unified Field Theory, and Teleportation, what are they experimenting with today. Even though, this sounds bizarre and sci-fi it is all theoretically possible and this experiment was just the beginning of human manipulation with electromagnetic fields. After “The Philadelphia Experiment” ended, “The Phoenix Project” started culminating with “The Montauk Project” in 1980s at Camp Hero or Montauk Air Force Station on Montauk, Long Island for the purpose of developing psychological warfare techniques and exotic research including time travel. According to astrophysicist and UFO researcher Jacques Vallée, the Montauk Experiment stories seem to have originated with the account of Preston Nichols, who claimed to have recovered repressed memories of his own involvement. Many believe in the story of “Carlos Allende” and many see it as a plot to a sci-fi movie. Be that as it may, “The Philadelphia Experiment” showed just how powerful electromagnetic manipulation can be and maybe it even created the anomaly of “The Bermuda Triangle”. They sent the crew ashore and they wrapped the vessel in big cables, then they sent high voltages through these cables to scramble the ship’s magnetic signature. This operation involved contract workers, and of course there were also merchant ships around, so civilian sailors could well have heard Navy personnel saying something like, “they’re going to make us invisible,” meaning undetectable by magnetic torpedoes….(Vallee) All records of the tragedy have been kept secret, but there was a rumor linking the experiment with the great inventor Nikola Tesla, who supposedly made all the necessary calculations and drawings and provided generators that were used for the teleportation of the “Eldridge.”
Tesla had not lived to witness the disaster, and shortly after his death the FBI confiscated his entire archive. More rumors circulated which indicated that the scientist’s death was no accident and that he had been warned of the danger in arguing with Einstein, ordered to desist from experiments on human beings and, finally, forced to silence…
