Dwarka and Somnath are two ancient and holy cities located in the western state of Gujarat, India. Both cities are known for their rich cultural heritage, historical significance, and religious importance. Ahmedabad, the largest city in Gujarat, serves as a perfect starting point for a trip to these two cities, as it is well-connected to both by road and rail.
Dwarka is located on the western tip of the Saurashtra peninsula, on the Arabian Sea coast. It is believed to be one of the seven ancient cities of India, and is considered to be one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Hindus. According to legend, Dwarka was the kingdom of Lord Krishna, and the city was built by him after he fled from Mathura to escape the wrath of his uncle, King Kansa.
The main attraction of Dwarka is the Dwarkadhish Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Krishna. The temple is believed to have been built over 2500 years ago, and it is one of the four main shrines of the Hindu religion. The temple is an architectural masterpiece, and it features intricate carvings and beautiful sculptures. The temple is also famous for its aarti ceremony, ...
... which takes place twice a day and is attended by thousands of devotees.
Apart from the Dwarkadhish Temple, there are several other places of interest in Dwarka. The Rukmini Devi Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Krishna's wife, is another popular temple in the city. The Bet Dwarka island, which is located a few kilometers from the main city, is also worth visiting. The island is home to several temples and is believed to be the place where Lord Krishna spent his childhood.
Somnath, on the other hand, is located on the coast of the Arabian Sea, around 400 kilometers from Dwarka. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, and it is considered to be one of the most sacred places in India. According to legend, the original Somnath Temple was built by Lord Soma, the Moon God, in gold. The temple was later rebuilt by Ravana, the demon king of Lanka, in silver, and then by Lord Krishna in wood. The current temple, which was built in 1951, is a magnificent structure that features intricate carvings and beautiful sculptures.
Apart from the Somnath Temple, there are several other places of interest in Somnath. The Triveni Sangam, where the three rivers Hiran, Kapila, and Saraswati meet, is a popular spot for pilgrims. The Bhalka Tirtha, which is believed to be the place where Lord Krishna was accidentally shot by a hunter, is another important site in the city.
