The kurta is unquestionably one of the most traditional and versatile garments in the Indian man's wardrobe. This ethnic staple with a traditional soul can elevate your look, no matter what the occasion be. A well-made kurta can be worn for a variety of occasions, including a festival, a wedding or engagement, or even a traditional day at work.
Choosing the right Kurta over premium vests for your body type can elevate your fashion game to new heights.

Knowing the best features of your body will not only help you dress well, but will also help you decide what to wear. We are very excited to share some important tips and tricks that will assist you in selecting the right shirt for your specific body type.

Men's inverted triangle frame
If your chest and shoulders are wider than your narrow waist and bottom half, you have an inverted triangle shape. This is also referred to as an athletic body.

Slim cut Kurtas with horizontal stripes are your best friends because they will broaden your comparatively narrower waist. Any details, particularly those around the shoulders, will draw attention to your ...
... broad frame and throw your body out of proportion. Wear your kurta with a pair of straight pants. Wearing churidaars will draw attention to your chicken legs.

Men's oval frame
Men with an oval frame have a torso that is wider than their shoulders and a bottom that is shorter and wider. The goal here is to find kurtas that will slim and frame your frame.

Kurtas with vertical and pin stripes appear elongated and are very flattering. Choose kurtas in solid colours with no embellishment or work on the front. Finish the look with straight pants in white or black.

Men's rectangular frame
Men with a rectangular body shape are typically tall and thin. Their shoulders are about as wide as their waist and hips.

You'll need kurtas that can give the appearance of structure. Printed kurtas with a pop of colour and block prints are great for the rectangle shape, whereas kurtas with vertical stripes are a no-no because they make you look thinner. Combine your kurta with a structured floral jacket to make your chest appear larger.

Men's triangular frame
Men with triangular body shapes have a heavier lower body in comparison to their slimmer upper half, which has narrow or sloped shoulders. This results in a naturally triangular shape.

For a slimming effect, choose kurtas in darker colours such as blues, greys, blacks, and browns. Increase the width of your shoulders and emphasise your upper body. Pair your kurta with a structured jacket to elongate your figure.

Pair your Kurta with a pair of straight pants. Churidaars should be avoided because they will only make your lower half look rounder.

Men’s trapezoid/ rhomboid frame
Trapezoid men have broad shoulders and a well-developed chest. With a narrower waist and bottom, this is one of the most desirable body shapes for men.

Fortunately, most colours and patterns complement your appearance. You can play around with the kurta's hemline. To make a statement, pair asymmetric hem kurtas with churidars or white lungi with golden border.

A gentleman's guide to Bengal kurtas
The quintessential traditional wear for men in most parts of India is a pair of kurta-pajama. Bengal has its own version of this popular ethnic attire. Interestingly, Bengalis refer to kurtas as 'Panjabi,' possibly after the men from Punjab who lent them this garment!

Bengali kurtas are made from a variety of fabrics, including cotton, silk-cotton, pure silk, and tussar silk. Kurtas can be simple, plain, or printed, or they can be more decorative with embroidered patterns. The most simple have light, elegant embroidery around the neck and buttonholes, while the most beautiful have ornate patterns covering the front of the kurta. The kurtas are available in five sizes: S/M/L/XL/XXL. Check the size specifications provided with each kurta to find the right one for you.

Cotton Kurtas
They are light and comfortable, and are appropriate for both casual and semi-formal wear. They are available in a variety of colours and patterns.

Silk-Cotton Kurtas
They are heavier than cotton kurtas, with a rich, glossy finish and intricately embroidered patterns. They are appropriate for formal parties and social functions. Hand-embroidered kantha patterns adorn a special selection of silk-cotton kurtas. Rural craftswomen from Bolpur do the kantha work on these kurtas (in West Bengal). The zamindar-styled kurtas are another unique type of silk-cotton kurta. Instead of front buttons, these kurtas have a side opening that can be fastened with strings, giving them a grand, zamindar-like appearance.

Pure Silk Kurtas
They are made of mulberry silk and are extremely light and comfortable. They are quite lovely, and come in a variety of colours ranging from light and elegant to bright and flashy. These silk kurtas are enhanced by intricately embroidered patterns. They are appropriate for wearing to celebrations and festivities.

Tussar Silk Kurtas
Tussar silk kurtas are available in natural shades of beige, cream, honey, and tawny with a golden sheen. These kurtas have a very fine fabric with a paper-like texture. They are typically embellished with embroidered patterns ranging from light designs around the neck to heavy, ornate designs that cover the entire front of the kurta. These kurtas are appropriate for religious and social events such as pujas and weddings. The traditional wedding attire for a Bengali groom is a tussar silk kurta and dhoti.

Kurtas were traditionally worn over pyjamas or dhotis. Today, they are frequently paired with trousers or even a pair of jeans, giving this traditional men's attire a modern look.
