Documents To Check While Buying A Used Car
One of the main factors contributing to the used automobile market's unprecedented growth is the fact that patience is not everyone's strong suit. Potential customers are searching for quicker and more cheaper choices as a result of the manufacturers' numerous problems, including chip shortages and recurring pandemic lockdowns. Under these circumstances, purchasing a pre-worshipped car is not a bad idea, but one must first verify the vehicle's status and its documentation. Here is a list of paperwork to look for when buying a secondhand car. We assume you are knowledgeable about determining the condition of the vehicle.
Certificate of Registration (RC)
The most important used automobile paperwork is the Registration Certificate (RC), which is essentially a card that summarises the complete vehicle. It contains details such as the chassis number, registration date, registration number, owner name, and serial number of the owner. Instead of the current smart cards, the earlier cars had RC books. Verifying the owner's serial number, the vehicle's registration date, the state in which it was registered, ...
... and the fuel type is crucial when buying a car. Any modifications to the engine, colour, or owner count must be properly updated on the RC.
Purchase Order for a Vehicle
When owning a secondhand car, the purchase invoice is crucial. The invoice from the dealership demonstrates the validity of the prior owner's purchase of the vehicle, and it goes without saying that the second owner should also have an invoice as proof of ownership. If you purchase it from a used car dealership or a car dealer, this will be easily accessible. Nevertheless, if you buy from an individual, you must ensure that you fill out an invoice sheet, similar to the example above, and it must contain the signatures of both parties to prevent confusion.
Insurance Records
If the consumer wants to keep the prior owner's insurance, he or she must start the process well in advance. Before transferring insurance, you should verify the timely payment of the premium, the seller's claim history, and the policy's expiration date. The policy's terms and conditions, particularly the exclusions, should be thoroughly understood by the consumer. The process should ideally be completed prior to the sale if you wish to search around for a replacement insurance policy for the used car. It's crucial to keep in mind that the consumer may be aware of the difficulty in obtaining insurance for a used car that is more than fifteen years old.
book of service records
There are numerous ways to evaluate the health of the car, but the service records provide a detailed picture of the history of the vehicle. You'll get a better picture of the car's condition, how well it was maintained, whether any parts were replaced, and more by looking through the service records. If a car receives routine maintenance, it will be in better shape than one that does not.
Forms 28,29 and 30
The paperwork needed to purchase a used car in India is Forms 29 and 30. The seller must sign three copies of Form 29 and one copy of Form 30 and give them to the buyer as part of the second-hand vehicle registration process. The purchaser will subsequently submit the same to the RTO for ownership transfer. Whereas Form 30 is the application for the intimation and transfer of car ownership, Form 29 is the notice of transfer of car ownership. The No Objection Certificate, or Form 28, is required whenever a vehicle is transferred between states.
Notification of No Objection (NOC)
If the car was purchased with a loan, the buyer will need to obtain the bank's No Objection Certificate from the seller. This paperwork will make it clear that the seller has fully repaid the debt. You wouldn't want to end yourself in that situation, would you? If documentation is not obtained, the buyer might be held accountable for repaying the debt following the transfer of ownership.
Vehicle Tax Receipt
When the car is first registered, the first owner just has to pay road tax once. If the road tax is not paid, it might result in a significant fine over time. Even worse, you can end yourself having to pay the same if you find yourself in that circumstance. States have varied road taxes, which typically range from 2% to 18%. A road tax receipt must be given to the purchaser by the seller.
Assurance for bi-fuel kits
The seller must give the buyer the bi-fuel certification if the vehicle being purchased may be used with more than one type of fuel. The state's RTO is required to issue a No Objection Certificate stating the same. Normally, the bi-fuel kit comes with a five-year warranty from the date of conversion. So, the purchaser must request the kit's sales receipt. Due to the fact that so few people are aware of it, this is one of the most overlooked used automobile documents.
Air Quality Certificate
It is crucial to possess this certificate because it is another one that is required by law. Make sure you have the most recent one on hand. It must be done every six months. The pollution certificate not only informs you of the pollution levels but also of the engine's health because increased smoke or emission levels can be an indication that the engine is having problems.
Owner's Guide
Don't forget to ask the seller for the owner's manual; it contains vital details regarding the car that you should be aware of. The owner's manual for a car typically includes information on things like the maintenance schedule, where to find components like the fuse box, and simple maintenance advice. To keep the car in top condition, this should be followed.
The paperwork listed above is very important, and when all of it is in order, it gives your car the all-clear and offers you, the owner, piece of mind. If any of the documents are invalid or expired, you must be prepared for a lengthy ordeal and possible punishment if you are discovered by the authorities.
