A Little History Of The Net Curtains
Ever since the 1700's net curtains were commonly used throughout many homes. These type of curtains provided a good level of privacy for the many residents who used them. The net curtains were from England and made of lace that was woven from cotton, wool or silk. At one time any curtains that were made of silk lace were known to be the premium and was very much sought after by many people even though they were also considered to be more expensive than several other materials.
During the 20th century when the time that man began producing synthetic fabrics, these curtains are pretty much made of polyester. The net curtains always brought a nice unique touch to the home, but they were not just used for windows.
These curtains were also used as surroundings for beds, and in doorways where it provided some privacy for the home owners and many people used them to prevent insects from entering their houses and they also made such a lovely decoration too. There were some forms of net curtains which were used around the world ever since weaving became popular.
You can find a large variety of these type of curtains ...
... in many stores that sell house ware. They do come in different sizes and shapes. There are three main ones, which are cafe, voile and jardiniere. The drop on net curtains are not quite as rigid as the regular ones are, so therefore it would not matter if they are a little longer or shorter than the window. Because the net curtain is so delicate, it is suggested that you have the nets hemmed to prevent them from ever fraying.
There are the Voile curtains, which originated in England, but nowadays they are made just about everywhere in the world, but mostly in China Turkey and Eastern Europe. The Voile curtain is known as being very fine, transparent material. The Voile nets can be embroidered with several decorations, in many cases they are left just plain, along with their fine weave pattern.
The Cafe curtains are normally used in kitchens, but you can use them just about anywhere in the house as they will look fine no matter where you hang them. You can use decorative curtain poles when you want to hang them or even rods and wires too. You just place these curtains inside the frame of the window.
You can also use these curtains in conjunction with some smaller curtains which you leave hanging, as this will act like a valance and shall provide a layered effect. Just leave a small gap right between the top and the bottom layer so to allow some light to enter through the window or make the top layer a little longer, which can overlap the bottom layer and block the gap.
The Jardiniere are full length window curtains and are shaped in a way so there is an arch located in the middle so this way you can see right outside. Even though it will allow a gap so to see through, the curtains still cover a very large area of the window. Now this was just a little history of net curtains, which were always quite popular among many people years ago and still are very popular even to this day.
